Summary: The Surface Technology Specialist role involves developing, qualifying, and providing technical support for Surface Technologies related to corrosion protection and tribology in aircraft airframes. Key Responsibilities:
- Developing and deploying materials, processes, and test technologies for mature design and build.
- Providing corrosion protection and sealing concepts to enable design, build, and operation of aircraft.
- Ensuring reactive support for improvement projects focused on performance improvement, cost, and time reduction.
- Ensuring compliance with EHS regulations through eco-efficient materials and processes.
- Adapting existing corrosion protection and sealing principles to a chromate-free environment.
Key Skills:
- Graduated in Material Science, Chemistry, Chemical or Material Engineering, or a similar field.
- Relevant background in corrosion protection and surface technology in aerospace or automotive industries.
- Knowledge of aerospace materials (metallic and composite), surface treatments, coatings, and sealants.
- Material testing experience including salt spray, corrosion tests, and paint coatings.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a multi-location international team.
- Negotiation level of English.

Our client has an opportunity for a Surface Technology Specialist to join them on a contract opportunity until the end of January 2027. You will work on the development, qualification and technical support of the Surface Technologies used for Corrosion Protection, Tribology and other applications of Aircraft airframe.
Role: Surface Technology Specialist
Location: Filton, 60% onsite
Hours: 35 per week
Hourly Rate: £40 per hour via Umbrella, inside IR35
Clearance: BPSS required to start
What you'll be doing:
- Developing and deploying Materials, Processes and Test Technologies for mature design and build
- Providing corrosion protection, sealing concepts and solutions to enable design, build and operation of aircraft
- Ensuring reactive support for improvement projects (performance improvement / cost and time reduction)
- Ensuring EHS (Environment Health and Safety) regulations (REACh) thanks to eco-efficient materials and processes
- Adapting existing corrosion protection and sealing principles to a chromate free environment.
Requirements:
- Graduated in Material Science, Chemistry, Chemical or Material Engineering or a similar field of expertise
- Relevant background in corrosion protection and surface technology applied in aerospace or automotive industry
- Relevant background in aerospace materials, mechanical engineering and aerospace, manufacturing processes
- Knowledge of aerospace materials (metallic and composite), surface treatments, coatings, and sealants
- Material testing experience - Salt spray, corrosion test, volvo test, paint coatings
- High degree of initiative, credibility, independence, integrity, confidentiality and trust
- Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in multi-location international team
- Languages: negotiation level of English
