We are looking for an IT Support/Cabling Technician to join our client on a short-term contract, supporting a PSTN migration project.
This role would suit someone with a 1st/2nd Line IT Support or Service Desk background who is comfortable working on-site and travelling to different locations to carry out basic checks and identify existing cable/internet routes.
The role will involve approximately 2 weeks visiting remote sites, followed by 1 week at the main site in Reading, checking and documenting cable routes and identifying where existing Internet connectivity runs.
Key Responsibilities
- Visit various remote sites to carry out basic infrastructure and connectivity checks.
- Physically identify and trace existing internet/network cable routes.
- Check where existing PSTN/internet lines enter and run through sites.
- Document findings clearly and accurately.
- Take notes/photos and record cable routes where required.
- Work through a list of known locations and identify the relevant cabling/connectivity.
- Support the wider team with information required for the PSTN migration project.
- Attend the main site in Reading to carry out similar checks and consolidate findings.
Key Skills & Experience
- Previous experience in IT Support, Service Desk, 1st Line or 2nd Line Support.
- Basic understanding of networking, Internet connectivity and cabling.
- Comfortable physically walking around sites and investigating cable routes.
- Good attention to detail and ability to accurately record findings.
- Confident working independently at different locations.
- Good communication skills and a practical, hands-on approach.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to remote sites.
- Ideally based in or around Reading due to the travel requirements.
You don't need to be a highly technical network engineer for this role. We're looking for someone with a solid IT support background who is practical and reliable.
