Summary: The Supplier Quality Engineer role is a 6-month contract position based in Sheffield or Barrow-in-Furness, focusing on supplier quality assurance within a high-integrity supply chain in the engineering and defence sectors. The engineer will manage supplier performance, lead inspections, and ensure compliance with industry standards. This position requires strong experience in regulated industries such as aerospace and defence. The role is classified as inside IR35 and offers a competitive hourly rate.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage supplier quality performance across an assigned portfolio
- Lead and support First Article Inspections (FAI) in line with AS9102
- Identify adverse trends and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)
- Lead supplier engagement for non-conformance management and resolution
- Support quality planning, risk assessments, and PFMEA activities
- Conduct and support supplier audits, investigations, and quality reviews
- Ensure compliance with Quality Management Systems (QMS) and project quality plans
- Analyse and report quality KPIs, metrics, and supplier performance data
- Promote a proactive quality-first and continuous improvement culture across the supply chain
- Support mentoring of junior quality team members where required
Key Skills:
- Experience in a Supplier Quality / Supplier Assurance Engineering role
- Strong knowledge of ISO 9001, EN9100, and AS9102 (FAI requirements)
- Proven experience managing supplier non-conformance and corrective actions
- Strong understanding of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and PFMEA
- Ability to analyse quality data and drive performance improvements
- Strong stakeholder management and supplier engagement skills
- Experience in aerospace, defence, or regulated manufacturing environments (desirable)
- Knowledge of machining, welding, or casting processes (desirable)
- Experience supporting supplier audits and improvement programmes (desirable)
- GCSE Maths & English (or equivalent)
- HNC / HND / Degree in Engineering (preferred)
- Apprenticeship or equivalent industry experience considered

The Opportunity We are currently recruiting for an experienced Supplier Quality Engineer to join a leading engineering organisation on a 6-month PAYE contract. This role is based in Sheffield or Barrow-in-Furness, supporting supplier quality assurance activities across a complex and high-integrity supply chain.
You will take ownership of a portfolio of suppliers, driving quality performance, compliance, and continuous improvement while ensuring adherence to key industry standards including ISO 9001, EN9100, and AS9102.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Supplier Quality Engineer, Supplier Assurance Engineer, or Quality Engineer with strong supply chain experience in regulated industries such as aerospace, defence, or advanced manufacturing.
