Summary: The Supplier Quality Engineer role focuses on ensuring that non-metallic suppliers meet high-quality standards and deliver defect-free components. The position involves enhancing supplier performance, resolving quality issues, and driving process improvements within a manufacturing context. The role requires collaboration with suppliers and internal teams to maintain compliance with manufacturing specifications and legal requirements. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Peterlee, UK, on a 12-month contract likely to extend.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with non-metallic suppliers to enhance manufacturing quality and efficiency.
  • Assess supplier quality systems, conduct audits, and support Supplier Excellence Recognition (SER) programs.
  • Evaluate Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) submissions, identify gaps, and collaborate with suppliers to ensure compliance.
  • Manage Non-Conformance Management (NCM) cases, perform Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA), and follow through to resolution.
  • Understand and oversee manufacturing techniques such as injection molding, rubber forming, foam molding, and rotomolding.
  • Support Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) STOP capability and Built-in Quality (BIQ) initiatives.

Key Skills:

  • Strong communication skills to liaise effectively with suppliers and internal teams.
  • In-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes and quality systems for non-metallic components (plastics, foam, rubber, etc.).
  • Experience in supplier quality engineering or manufacturing engineering.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a focus on process improvement.
  • Proficiency in APQP, GD and T, and Engineering Specifications.
  • Familiarity with supplier evaluations and certification processes.
  • Minimum 5+ years of relevant experience (consideration for slightly less if highly experienced in non-metallic components).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and internal ERP systems.
  • Experience in quality audits (CQMS) and capacity planning (RCCP) is desirable.
  • Certifications such as Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP), or Certified Manufacturing Engineer (CMfgE) are a plus.
  • Previous experience in a supplier development role within a large manufacturing environment.
