Summary: The Senior Quantity Surveyor role based in Newcastle involves managing subcontractor relationships and financial aspects of construction projects, with a focus on risk assessment and contract management. The position requires flexibility for site visits across Scotland and collaboration with various stakeholders. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and providing financial updates to project managers. This is a hybrid role that combines office work with remote flexibility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Project Manager & Commercial Project Manager in identifying, evaluating, and assessing risks & opportunities.
  • Administer subcontracts on a day-to-day basis and manage final account settlements.
  • Ensure timely submission of contractual notifications and manage payment applications.
  • Provide financial status updates on project subcontractors and key supplier accounts.
  • Attend project meetings with stakeholders and manage project change management and claims.
  • Collaborate with the project team and provide contractual advice for project execution.
  • Support procurement by advising on contractual terms for subcontract work packages.
  • Liaise with the legal team to review subcontract terms aligned with customer contracts.
  • Prepare and manage claims and variation particulars in line with contract timescales.
  • Perform quantum and/or delay analyses to establish causation for project impacts.
  • Build positive relationships with customers, joint venture partners, and subcontractors.
  • Develop and improve contract and claim management processes and strategies.

Key Skills:

  • Experience in Quantity Surveying / Contract Management and/or commercial project management.
  • Knowledge of various Construction and Engineering Forms of Contract, especially NEC, FIDIC, and MF/1.
  • Experience with M&E and Civil construction.
  • Experience in negotiating subcontract terms and conditions.
  • Project budgeting and financial management skills.
  • Chartered Quantity Surveyor status (RICS / CICES) is advantageous.
  • Competence in Claim Management and understanding of contract law principles.
  • Strong negotiation and collaborative working skills.

Salary (Rate): £600 daily

Role: Senior Quantity Surveyor

Location: Newcastle with Travel to Scotland - Hybrid working

Start Date: ASAP

Pay Rate: £500 - £600 P/day LTD co.

OUTSIDE IR35

Duration: 12 months

Location of Work

Successful candidate would be required to be flexible working from the following locations to suit the needs of the project.

Mixture of Siemens Head office Newcastle Upon Tyne / home working permitted on a flexible basis to be agreed with candidate.

Regular visits to site to review progress of construction and attend key meetings, note sites located throughout Scotland

Person Profile

Experience in Quantity Surveying / Contract Management and/or commercial project management

Knowledge and familiarity with a variety of Construction and Engineering Forms of Contract; in particular extensive experience with the NEC Contract. FIDIC and MF/1 desirable

Experience with M&E + Civil construction would be advantageous.

Experience in setting up and negotiating terms and conditions of subcontracts.

Experience in project budgeting, financial management of risk, opportunities, and claims

Chartered Quantity Surveyor would be advantageous (RICS / CICES)

Competent in Claim Management

Commercially Competent including understanding the principles of contract law.

Competent in working collaboratively and cooperatively with the project

Role / Responsibilities

  • Supports the Project Manager & Commercial Project manager in identifying, evaluating, and assessing risks & opportunities.
  • Takes ownership and administers subcontracts on a day-to-day basis.
  • Manages subcontract / supplier final account settlements.
  • Ensures timely submission of contractual notifications.
  • Submission and management of payment applications in accordance with terms of contract.
  • Provides timely updates to the Project Manager & Commercial Project manager on the accurate financial status, including forecast out-turn position, of project subcontractors / key supplier accounts.
  • Attends Project meetings with Site, Customer and Joint Venture Partner stakeholders at their Office premises or construction sites.
  • Takes ownership and management of Project Change Management and Claims, relating to both the main Contract with our Customers and our subcontractors / key suppliers.
  • Collaborates and effectively communicates with the wider Project team, giving contractual advice relative to the successful execution of the Project.
  • Supports the procurement department by advising on and drafting contractual terms and conditions for the placement of Project Subcontract work packages.
  • Liaises with our legal team, reviewing and evaluating subcontract terms and conditions aligned to our main customer contracts.
  • Identifying, evaluating, and following up on all events relevant for incoming and outgoing claims / compensation events.
  • Collecting, preparing, analysing, and managing relevant claim / variation particulars for the preparation and drafting, or defence, of submissions to / from our Customers and subcontractors / key suppliers, in line with contract timescales.
  • Performing quantum and/or delay analyses to establish causation for relevant events impacting the scope of works or project schedule.
  • Provides contractual advice and support to our Project teams regarding the effective execution of customer contracts and subcontracts.
  • Pursuing and / or defending incoming and outgoing claims; including the collation of relevant project records, documentation and appropriate evidence / facts, through to satisfactory conclusion
  • Establishing and substantiating cause and effect necessary to demonstrate entitlement to quantum and / or additional time under the Contract.
  • Actively builds positive relationships with our Customer, Joint Venture Partner and Subcontract / Key Supplier teams.
  • Developing and improving contract and claim management processes and strategies
