Summary: The SQL Developer role involves supporting the transformation of Water Balance analytics by migrating complex reporting processes from spreadsheets to SQL-based pipelines. The position requires building and maintaining SQL pipelines, data extraction, and ensuring data accuracy for regulatory reporting. The role is hybrid, allowing for one day of onsite work per week, and is based in either Bristol or Exeter. The contract is for six months and falls inside IR35 regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain SQL-based pipelines to replace existing Excel-driven water balance processes.
  • Extract, cleanse and reconcile data from multiple SQL Server environments with differing structures and quality.
  • Support weekly operational reporting cycles and contribute to annual regulatory submissions.
  • Investigate anomalies, validate inputs and ensure accurate, auditable data outputs.
  • Document data flows, transformation logic and methodologies for audit and governance purposes.

Key Skills:

  • Strong SQL Server skills (T-SQL, SSMS), ideally with SQL Server 2017 experience.
  • Solid understanding of water industry concepts such as Distribution Input, consumption components and leakage methodology.
  • Familiarity with regulatory reporting processes (eg, annual performance submissions).
  • Ability to translate spreadsheet logic into reliable, scalable SQL solutions.
  • Comfortable working with varied data quality across multiple systems.
  • Python - useful but not critical.

You'll help move complex, business-critical reporting processes from spreadsheets into robust SQL-based pipelines. This role offers the chance to work across multiple datasets and contribute directly to regulatory performance improvements.
