Summary: The Solutions Designer role involves translating business requirements into effective digital solutions within a technical team, contributing to the organization's Digital Transformation. The position requires collaboration with Systems Architects and other digital professionals to ensure alignment with the CIPD's strategic goals and IT principles. The role is a fixed-term contract for up to 8 months, focusing on designing, developing, and implementing core architecture components. The Solutions Designer will also provide ongoing technical guidance throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and implement core building blocks of high-level architecture.
  • Ensure solutions align with overall strategy and comply with Enterprise Architecture standards.
  • Provide technical design input for new digital programmes and projects.
  • Support the development of end-to-end solutions meeting functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Act as a technical focal point throughout the project lifecycle to resolve issues.
  • Contribute to high-level estimating, risk assessment, and GAP analysis.
  • Define and optionally create proof of concepts or prototypes.

Key Skills:

  • Experience in Development, Design, or Solution Architecture.
  • Ability to translate software requirements into technical design blueprints.
  • Exposure to multi-tier architecture environments, including APIs and integrated software products.
  • Familiarity with Enterprise software implementation and Identity and Access Management.
  • Broad understanding of current and emerging technologies relevant to digital business.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for explaining digital concepts.
  • Ability to work collaboratively using Agile Methodology and Modelling Tools.

Solutions Designer
Circa £60,000 + benefits
Up to 8 months fixed term contract (paternity cover)

The role
As Solutions Designer, you will translate business requirements and design effective digital solutions as part of a wider technical team. You will be working alongside other digital professionals and architect and you will contribute towards delivering the Digital Transformation ensuring that technical designs are in keeping with the CIPD’s business strategy, IT principles and strategic goals.

What you’ll be doing
Working alongside Systems Architect to design, develop and implement the core building blocks of the high-level architecture.
Working within projects to ensure solutions align to the overall strategy, comply to organisations Enterprise Architecture, IT design and development standards.
Providing technical design input for new digital programmes, projects and workstreams for contributing to the selection, evaluation and discovery phase of new software implementation projects.
Supporting development of end-to-end solutions that meet functional and non-functional requirements.
Ensuring technical architecture of digital projects translates into programme delivery with regards to solutions with technology element.
Ongoing technical focal point to provide technical guidance throughout the project / programme lifecycle to help make progress and resolve issues.
Contributing to high level estimating, risk assessment (identify potential risks and challenges associated with the proposed solution and work on mitigating them), GAP analysis within the project.
Define and optionally creating proof of concepts or prototypes.

What you’ll need to be successful
Experience in Development, Design or Solution Architecture.
Experience translating software requirements into technical design blueprints or solutions.
Exposure to multi-tier architecture environment including APIs, integrated packaged software products (COTS, iPaaS, SaaS), Service Oriented Architecture.
Familiarity with Enterprise software implementation and Identity and Access Management.
Good broad understanding of current and emerging technologies and how they may be applied at the CIPD to drive digital business such as APIs, Messaging, Cloud environments, Databases, Networking and Security.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain digital concepts and technologies for senior leaders and key stakeholders.
Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders to achieve results through Agile Methodology, Modelling Tools (Bizzdesign), Continuous Integration and DevOps.
