Summary: The role of Solution Architect – Azure involves designing and delivering cloud-based solutions specifically for UK power utilities. The successful candidate will leverage their expertise in Microsoft Azure and enterprise-scale architecture to collaborate with stakeholders and technical teams, ensuring secure and efficient solutions. This freelance position is based in Warwick, requiring two days on-site each week, and is classified as inside IR35. The engagement is anticipated to last for six months with potential for extension.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design end-to-end Azure solutions aligned with business and technical requirements.
- Define and enforce cloud architecture standards, patterns, and governance models.
- Lead stakeholder workshops, architecture reviews, and design approvals.
- Drive solution implementation in line with approved architectures and manage incremental architectural changes as requirements evolve.
- Lead migrations from on-premises environments to Azure, as well as cloud-to-cloud migrations.
- Integrate Azure services with existing enterprise and legacy systems.
- Ensure solutions comply with organisational policies and UK regulatory standards.
- Implement robust identity, access management, and data protection strategies.
- Optimise Azure environments for performance, availability, scalability, and cost efficiency.
- Work closely with DevOps, Data, Integration, and Network teams to deliver high-quality solutions.
- Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentoring to delivery teams.
- Maintain architecture diagrams, solution roadmaps, and technical documentation in line with organisational standards and templates.
Key Skills:
- Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure services (Compute, Networking, Storage, Security, Monitoring).
- Experience with Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code (ARM, Bicep, Terraform).
- Solid understanding of Azure Active Directory, RBAC, and cloud security best practices.
- Proven experience designing highly available, scalable, and secure cloud architectures.
- Familiarity with microservices architecture and container platforms (AKS, Docker).
- Experience with Azure Data Services, including Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, and Azure SQL Database.
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert (preferred).
- Experience within power or utility network environments.
- Knowledge of power systems, data analytics, and AI integration on Azure.
- Familiarity with UK utilities regulatory and compliance frameworks.
