Summary: The Software Test Engineer role at a World Class Defence Organisation involves working within the Environment Simulators team to ensure the quality and readiness of simulation software. Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and conduct end-to-end software testing for simulation software releases.
- Develop comprehensive software test plans and execute formal qualification testing.
- Lead testing of software defects and provide logs/data analysis in collaboration with the Support team.
- Provide regular updates and detailed reports on software functionality to project leads and stakeholders.
- Support the software delivery and release process, including final certification activities.
Key Skills:
- Experience in software test automation and understanding of software logs/data analysis.
- Familiarity with CI/CD software pipelines, GitLab, JIRA, and scripting.
- Knowledge of Agile Scrum methodologies and compliance/regulatory requirements.
- Desirable experience with AI test automation tooling and software simulation/emulator knowledge.
- Desirable skills in Linux network configuration and analysis tools.

World Class Defence Organisation is currently looking to recruit a Software Test Engineer subcontractor on an initial 12 month contract.
Rate: £65.00 per hour
Location: Stevenage
Hybrid / Remote working: 4 days a week likely onsite. A compressed 4 day week (Monday to Thursday) a possibility.
Contract: 37 Hours per week
Overtime: Hours worked over 37 hours per week will be calculated at ‘time and a quarter’
Duration: 12 Months (initially and then ongoing and long-term thereafter)
IR35 status: Inside IR35 (Umbrella)
Software Test Engineer Job Description:
An exciting opportunity to work as a Software Testing Engineer within the Environment Simulators team based in our Stevenage office with our simulation developers. The Simulation Software department is at the forefront of developing simulations for the Weapon System and sub-systems teams using the full development life cycle and agile methodologies. Our simulations follow best practices and capability to ensure our products are rigorously tested, fit-for-purpose, and ready for delivery. As a Software Testing Engineer, you aren't just finding bugs; you are a Quality Advocate ensuring our simulations are mission-ready.
Reporting to the Group and Project Leads, you will be responsible for the end-to-end software testing and proving lifecycle for our simulation software releases and software defects. Your responsibilities will span planning, conduct, and reporting:
- Test/Proving Planning
- Understanding Customer needs and requirements from a proving perspective.
- Understanding design and architecture including defining software test bed requirements.
- Developing comprehensive software test plans, writing, and running test sets, designs, and specifications.
- Test/Proving Conduct
- Regular progressive software testing assurance during software development cycles.
- Leading testing of software defects.
- Liaising with our Support team in order to provide logs/data analysis when issues are identified.
- Demonstrate compliance to requirements.
- Executing formal software qualification testing.
- Test/Proving Reporting
- Providing regular updates to project leads and stakeholders on software functionality.
- Writing detailed software test and analysis reports for certification purposes.
- Supporting the software delivery and release process, including final certification activities.
Technical Knowledge
