Key Responsibilities:

  • Interact with the senior product design and implementation team.

  • Write unit tests to exercise the software and automate tests as per project strategy.

  • Support peer reviews of others' work.

Key Skills:

  • Degree / HND / HNC in an applicable Engineering Discipline.
  • Experience in software unit testing for real-time and embedded systems.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as GoLang, C++, or C.
  • Knowledge of IP routing protocols like RIP & BGP.
  • Experience with DOORS, GIT/Bitbucket, and Jira.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work proactively and learn on the job.
  • Background in computational mathematics and signal processing.
  • Experience with model-driven engineering and handling autogenerated and hand-written code.
  • Technical documentation skills.
  • Experience with container deployment technologies like Docker, Podman, and Kubernetes.
  • Awareness of MS Windows platform and automated testing.
  • Previous defence sector experience.
  • Software Quality Assurance Plugin development.

We are looking for Software Test Engineers to drive forward the Defence sector within Electrical and Embedded Systems. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference to the client project that you support. As a Software Test Engineer, you should have experience of a variety communication protocols – specifically general networking & IP routing protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with the senior product design and implementation team
  • Update test procedures and understand requirement linkage
  • Write unit tests to exercise the software written and where appropriate automate these tests in line with the project/business strategy and Continuous Integration process
  • Proactively be part of an Agile Scrum team and attend and contribute to Agile meetings, maintaining and progressing own backlog items in Jira, in-line with personal and team commitments made in sprint planning sessions
  • Support peer reviews of others work

Qualifications

Degree / HND / HNC in an applicable Engineering Discipline

Essential Skills

  • Experience in software unit testing preferably for real-time and embedded software systems.
  • Experience successfully developing certified product in accordance with HGES or its predecessors would be useful
  • Experience in developing with languages such as GoLang, C++ or C would be useful
  • Experience in one or more of the following: DOORS, GIT/Bitbucket and Jira
  • Knowledgeable in IP routing protocols such as RIP & BGP would be useful
  • Experience working within a software team in an Agile environment with exposure to Continuous Integration and desirably Continuous Deployment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • An ability to work as a member of the team both within the project, and also the Software Engineering Management community in Thales
  • Self starter able to work in a proactive manner.
  • Able to learn skills on the job with limited coaching.
  • Build relationships with the software team and software architect to lead the delivery
  • A solid background in computational mathematics, particularly in its application to signal processing, is essential for understanding and implementing complex models
  • Experience working with model-driven engineering and handling a mixture of autogenerated and hand-written code is required.
  • Technical documentation skills used in the production in software documentation deliverables

  • Experience of container deployment through technologies such as Docker, Podman and/or Kubernetes.
  • Applications will need to be packaged into containers for deployment.
