Summary: The Software Test Engineer role is a contract position focused on both Python test automation and manual testing for a client in the medical device sector located in Motherwell. Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct hands-on software testing, including Python test automation and manual testing.
- Write automated tests in Python and perform manual testing when necessary.
- Maintain good test records and work within a Quality Management System (QMS).
- Test embedded software or physical devices, ensuring compliance with safety-critical regulations.
- Collaborate with the team to manage task work based on individual strengths.
Key Skills:
- Strong software testing experience on embedded software or physical devices.
- Experience with Python test automation and manual testing.
- Background in a safety-critical or regulated sector (medical, automotive, aerospace, etc.).
- Understanding of working within a QMS with good record-keeping.
- Desirable experience in medical device testing and cybersecurity testing exposure.
- Familiarity with test management tools such as Jama, Codebeamer, TestLink, HP ALM, or DOORS.

KO2 Embedded Recruitment Solutions is recruiting a Software Test Engineer for a client developing a market leading medical device at their site in Motherwell.
The role:
This is a hands-on software testing position covering both Python test automation and manual testing. The ideal person can write automated tests in Python and is happy to carry out manual testing when automation isn't possible - including GUI testing directly on the device.
However, if you are a pure Python test automation engineer, or a pure manual test engineer with embedded software or device testing experience, you will still be considered - the task work can be managed around your strengths.
You'll be working in a regulated medical environment, so keeping good test records and working within a QMS will be part of day-to-day life.
What you'll need:
- Strong software testing experience on embedded software or a physical device (e.g. mobile devices, smart meters, handheld/touchscreen products)
- Python test automation experience, manual testing experience, or ideally both
- Background in a safety-critical or regulated sector - medical, automotive, aerospace, defence, finance, or oil & gas
- Understanding of working within a QMS with good record-keeping
- Happy to be onsite in Motherwell 3 days per week (flexibility available on how these are arranged, e.g. week on/week off)
Desirable:
- Medical device testing experience
- Some cybersecurity testing exposure
- Familiarity with test management tools such as Jama, Codebeamer, TestLink, HP ALM or DOORS
