Summary: The Software Engineering Manager will lead and support a team of Software Engineers in developing and maintaining technology products, with a focus on Java, Javascript, and ETL processes within the healthcare sector. The role requires deep technical expertise and a proven track record in building high-performing teams. The position is based in London with a hybrid working arrangement and is classified as inside IR35. The successful candidate will be responsible for simplifying complex data challenges and ensuring effective stakeholder management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, coach, and support a team of Software Engineers in technology product development and maintenance.
- Build and manage high-performing Software Engineering teams.
- Utilize deep technical expertise in Java, Javascript, and Azure/GCP to build distributed systems.
- Simplify complex data challenges related to ETL processes.
- Design software architectures for scalability, reliability, and performance.
- Build products from concept to prototype and implementation.
- Implement Agile delivery processes.
- Manage stakeholder relationships across technical and non-technical audiences.
- Communicate effectively with various stakeholders regarding product features and strategy.
- Adapt to a flexible hybrid working environment.
Key Skills:
- Proven experience as a Software Engineering Manager in large organizations.
- Track record of building and leading high-performing teams.
- Hands-on background with expertise in Java, Javascript, and Azure/GCP.
- Experience in designing scalable software architectures.
- Knowledge of Agile delivery processes.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Degree/Masters in Computer Science or related field (nice to have).
- Strong understanding of computer science fundamentals.
- Experience in the Healthcare/HealthTech sector (nice to have).
- Immediate availability (nice to have).

My client is a high profile organisation who are recruiting for a Software Engineering Manager to lead, coach and support a team of Software Engineers in the Development and maintenance of Technology products, with deep technical expertise across a range of technologies (Java, Javascript and Azure/GCP for example) and a proven track record of delivery and building high performing Software Engineering teams.
Key Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Software Engineering Manager in large, complex organisations
- A track record of building, leading, coaching and supporting high performing Software Engineering teams
- A hands-on background, with deep technical expertise across a range of technologies (Java, Javascript and Azure/GCP for example) including building distributed systems
- Ability to simplify complex data challenges in areas such as 'match and merge', and 'enhance-transform & load' (ETL) through tooling and navigating the inherent quality, scale, and dependency issues that come with large datasets
- Previous experience of designing Software architectures for scalability, reliability and performance
- Demonstrable experience of building a product from concept to prototype and implementation
- Proven knowledge and experience of Agile delivery processes
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, with stakeholders across the organisation including users, Product teams, technical and non-technical audiences, as well as senior management to describe and discuss Software Product features, technical designs, and Product strategy
- Exceptional communication skills
- Flexible approach towards hybrid working
Nice to have:
- Degree/Masters in Computer Science (or related field)
- Strong understanding of Computer Science fundamentals in data structures, algorithm design, problem solving and complexity analysis
- Previous experience in the Healthcare/HealthTech sector
- Immediate availability
