We’re hiring an experienced Engineering Manager to join a global leader in digital travel and e-commerce, working within a team responsible for increasing customer engagement with a market-leading loyalty programme.
This is a high-priority, time-sensitive project involving close collaboration with engineering and product teams across Manchester, Amsterdam and Shanghai.
You’ll lead and develop high-performing engineering teams while remaining close to the technology, providing architectural guidance, supporting production reliability and ensuring high-quality software is delivered at pace.
What you’ll be doing
- Lead, coach and develop one or more multidisciplinary engineering teams
- Manage teams typically consisting of 5–8 engineers alongside Product, UX and QA colleagues
- Take ownership of engineering delivery, team performance, roadmap progress and technical quality
- Track team health, delivery metrics and KPIs, identifying and resolving blockers
- Communicate progress, risks and dependencies clearly to senior stakeholders
- Support recruitment, workforce planning and the continued growth of the engineering function
- Own applications and services throughout the full development and production lifecycle
- Monitor application health, resilience, scalability, security and performance
- Drive continuous delivery, experimentation and customer-focused engineering practices
- Lead the response to live production issues, ensuring customer impact is minimised within agreed SLAs
- Facilitate root-cause analysis, post-mortems and long-term reliability improvements
- Provide architectural guidance across functional and non-functional requirements
- Remain technically engaged through software development, testing and engineering best practices
- Identify and implement improvements to engineering processes, systems and standards
- Manage performance, provide constructive feedback and create meaningful development opportunities
- Participate in an on-call rotation when required
What we’re looking for
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related discipline—or equivalent practical experience
- At least 5 years of professional experience managing software development teams
- Strong people-management, coaching and mentoring capabilities
- Proven experience delivering customer-facing software products at scale
- A solid technical background in software engineering, architecture and production operations
- Experience owning applications or services from development through deployment and live operation
- Strong understanding of system reliability, monitoring, incident management and root-cause analysis
- Experience working with continuous delivery, testing and experimentation frameworks
- Ability to balance delivery priorities with technical quality, scalability and resilience
- Strong stakeholder-management skills across international and cross-functional teams
- Commercial awareness and the ability to assess feasibility, cost, scalability and time-to-market
- Clear, confident communication with both technical and non-technical audiences
This is an excellent opportunity to lead a talented engineering team within a highly visible global programme, helping millions of customers engage with the benefits of a major digital loyalty platform.
