Software Engineer Java

The Role

We are looking for an experienced Java Developer to join a high-profile agile development team delivering modern cloud-native applications within a large-scale enterprise environment.

You will play a key role in designing, developing and enhancing microservice-based platforms, working across the full software development lifecycle within a collaborative Agile team.

This is an excellent opportunity to work with modern technologies including Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, MongoDB, AWS and Kubernetes while contributing to mission-critical applications.

Essential Skills

• Strong commercial experience with Java
• Extensive experience with Spring Boot
• Hands-on experience with Kafka
• Experience working with MongoDB
• Understanding of Docker images and containerisation
• Strong knowledge of Unit Testing and TDD
• Experience writing BDD/Gherkin-style tests
• Experience with Cucumber
• Experience with CI/CD tools such as:
• Jenkins
• GitLab
• GitHub Actions

Desirable Skills

• AWS services including:
• SQS
• S3
• SNS
• KMS
• GitLab CI/CD pipelines
• Performance/load testing using:
• Gatling
• K6
• Experience working within Scrum or Kanban teams
• Kubernetes or Amazon ECS
• Microservices architecture experience
• Cloud-native application development

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain scalable Java microservices
• Build RESTful APIs and event-driven solutions using Kafka
• Work with MongoDB and cloud-native architectures
• Create automated tests using TDD and BDD practices
• Contribute to CI/CD pipeline development and optimisation
• Participate in Agile ceremonies and sprint planning
• Collaborate with architects, DevOps engineers and business stakeholders
• Support deployment and production releases
