About The Role

Active Savings makes it easy to switch your money on. One online account lets you choose savings products from a range of banks and building societies. In Active Savings we build and maintain web services for our clients, partner banks and internal operations teams. These services are written in Java, with a front end written using HTML communicating with an Oracle database. Within this role, you'll be working closely with a skilled and passionate cross-functional team to deliver improvements and crucial changes to our services in an agile way. You will have the opportunity to be instrumental in shaping and delivering modern, scalable, secure and highly performant applications. We are a big believer in CI/CD and the fail fast philosophy, looking to automate wherever possible. You should embrace a culture that focuses on teamwork, rapid learning, and the continuous delivery of valuable software. This role will also involve coaching and support of other engineers. Therefore, being approachable, enthusiastic, patient and a clear communicator are all key attributes. What You'll Be Doing

  • Responsible for writing high quality code, adhering to corporate & regulatory standards
  • Working collaboratively with the team to help deliver new features for the business and enhance existing functionality
  • Providing engineering support for existing applications where necessary
  • Ensure code produced is in line with these current secure coding practices
  • Review other engineers' code to ensure conformance with established standards
  • Responsible for developing and evidencing automated tests alongside code produced
  • Responsible for documenting all solutions produced to agreed team standards
  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn further technologies & techniques
  • Cultivate strong working relationships within the Digital department

About You

Ideally 3+ years' experience developing in Java 8+

Working knowledge of RDBMS and SQL

Able to effectively use version control to manage code, in particular Git

Understanding of professional development methodologies, tools (e.g source control, automation testing tools, build servers and wider SDLC)

Working with automated build pipelines / continuous integration

Ability to work well both independently and in a team

Adopts a logical, analytical, and methodical approach to problem solving

Nice to Have

A background in finance/banking

Understanding of TDD and BDD

Test automation with Cucumber and Selenium

Understanding of object-oriented programming (OOP) model principles and application design patterns

Frontend Web development, HTML, CSS.

Knowledge of using JIRA and other Atlassian products
