Software Engineer

Overview

Join our client’s Conversational Search Experience team in Manchester and help shape how millions of travellers discover and explore trips through more natural, conversational search.

You’ll build and scale customer-facing experiences across web and app surfaces, working in a multidisciplinary environment (engineering, product, design, UX, data) and contributing to high-impact initiatives that blend modern full-stack engineering with agentic AI-assisted delivery.

This is an opportunity to ship meaningful product improvements while working with AI agents as part of an agile development workflow—defining intent, guiding implementation, and taking ownership of quality, testing, and reliability.

Required Skills

• Full-stack development experience building production-grade features across frontend and backend.
• Frontend: Strong JavaScript/TypeScript fundamentals plus experience with modern frameworks (e.g., React or Vue.js), HTML, and CSS.
• Backend: Experience building services and APIs using Java (or Java-based frameworks); strong understanding of REST (and/or GraphQL) API design and consumption.
• Agentic AI delivery: Hands-on experience using AI agents to accelerate development workflows (e.g., defining specs/intents, steering generation, reviewing and testing output) and/or integrating AI-driven features into end-user experiences.
• AWS proficiency: Experience delivering software on AWS, including build/deploy tooling (e.g., CloudFormation or equivalent IaC approaches).
• Testing & quality: Ability to write and maintain unit/integration tests across the stack and participate in code reviews.
• Collaboration & communication: Comfortable working with cross-functional partners and communicating clearly in English with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to Have Skills

• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and modern CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with monitoring, reliability, and service health concepts (e.g., SLIs/SLOs, performance, scalability, fault tolerance).
• Interest or exposure to customer engagement, recommendations, experimentation (A/B testing), or push notification systems.
• Experience working on products serving a large, global user base.

Preferred Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline or equivalent practical experience (including recognised coding bootcamps).
• 3+ years professional experience in full-stack, frontend, or backend web development.

Other Requirements

• Able to work effectively in a multi-team environment and deliver to agreed timelines while maintaining high engineering standards.
• Comfortable taking end-to-end ownership: guiding AI-assisted implementation, validating outputs through testing, and ensuring maintainability and reliability.
