This is a Backend Java Developer role.
Join the Insurance Offers team as a Software Engineer II and help build greenfield backend services that power insurance offers end-to-end. In this role, you’ll design and develop scalable, high-performance services, implement eligibility and configuration logic, integrate with dependent systems, and keep production services reliable. You’ll take meaningful ownership—making technical decisions within your team, improving service health through SLIs/SLOs, and solving problems that impact customers across mobile apps, the website, and internal systems.
Required Skills
- Strong backend engineering experience building and scaling services, components, and internal systems
- Experience designing reliable, high-performance systems with a focus on performance and scalability
- Hands-on ability to own services end-to-end, including monitoring and improving SLIs/SLOs
- Strength in problem-solving and prioritising work based on customer and business impact
- Ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences
- Experience writing and maintaining automated tests in environments with complex interactions (e.g., many concurrent experiments)
- Comfort assessing tradeoffs across languages, architecture choices, and risk (e.g., Perl, Java, or similar)
Nice to Have Skills
- Experience integrating services with multiple dependent systems in a distributed environment
- Familiarity working in experimentation-heavy product environments (high volume of tests/variants)
- Experience supporting and improving production reliability for customer-facing systems
- Interest in contributing to hiring, interviewing, and onboarding efforts
Preferred Education and Experience
- Preferred: A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
- Preferred: Professional experience at the Software Engineer II level (or similar scope), including independent ownership and technical decision-making within a team
