Summary: The Met Office is seeking a Software Developer for a 6-month hybrid contract, primarily focused on developing and maintaining weather data services for the transport industry. The role involves designing secure code, mentoring junior developers, and managing CI/CD pipelines. Candidates must have active SC Clearance and experience with AWS technologies and Python. Occasional travel to Exeter is required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, test and document robust, maintainable & secure code using industry standard patterns.
- Mentor junior software developers through code reviews and pair programming.
- Develop systems characterized by moderate levels of risk, impact, and complexity.
- Choose suitable design standards, methodologies, and tools, ensuring effective application.
- Evaluate designs created by others for technology selection and resource utilization.
- Apply a Modern standards approach within the tribe.
- Write, maintain and improve automation pipelines for CI/CD environments.
- Identify, locate and fix faults within critical operational services.
- Support the tribe’s technical estate during working hours.
Key Skills:
- Active SC Clearance or willingness to undergo checks.
- Experience in developing and testing software using Python.
- Knowledge of AWS serverless technologies (Lambda, StepFunctions, DynamoDB, etc.).
- Experience building and deploying software in AWS using CDK, codeBuild, codePipeline, Terraform.
- Experience with GitHub workflows.
- Experience in an Agile, cross-functional customer-centric environment.
