Summary: The Software Developer role is a 6-month contract position based in Edinburgh, focusing on transitioning from legacy systems to cloud-native solutions using AWS technologies. The successful candidate will collaborate on developing serverless micro-services with a strong emphasis on quality and Agile methodologies. Essential skills include AWS development, TypeScript/JavaScript, and excellent teamwork capabilities. The position is classified as outside IR35, offering a competitive daily rate.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborative development of new serverless micro-services using AWS Lambda functions and TypeScript/JavaScript.
  • Design and implementation of solutions using a service-based and serverless architecture.
  • Work with business stakeholders to understand context and deliver value.
  • Ensure excellent quality software development in a team environment.
  • Utilize Agile delivery models such as Scrum and/or Kanban frameworks.
  • Define infrastructure-as-code and apply formal XP engineering techniques.
  • Implement cloud monitoring, telemetry, and intelligence tools and processes.

Key Skills:

  • Solid commercial AWS development experience, including CDK, Serverless (Lambda), S3, API Gateway, and CloudFormation.
  • Proficiency in TypeScript or modern JavaScript.
  • Excellent collaboration, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Experience working in Agile delivery models.
  • Familiarity with GDS or Digital First quality standards.
  • Knowledge of human-centred, research-driven design practices.
  • Experience with testing tools and frameworks, e.g., Cypress.
  • Use of UI pattern libraries for consistent and high-quality interfaces.

Salary (Rate): £480 per day

Harvey Nash's public sector client is currently looking to recruit a Developer to join their team based in Edinburgh for an initial 6-month period.

Description: An experienced developer with solid commercial AWS development experience is required to accelerate a move from legacy on-prem registers to new cloud-native solutions. The focus of the work will be the collaborative development of new serverless micro-services using AWS Lambda functions and TypeScript/JavaScript.

Essential Skills:

  • AWS including:
    • CDK
    • Serverless (Lambda)
    • S3
    • API Gateway
    • CloudFormation
  • TypeScript (or modern JavaScript)
  • Making excellent quality software with other people.
  • Working with business stakeholders, to understand the context, and to focus on delivering value.
  • Design and implementation of solutions using a service-based and serverless architecture.
  • Excellent collaboration, communication and teamwork skills
  • Experience working in the Agile delivery models - such as Scrum and/or Kanban frameworks.
