Summary: The SME Manufacturing Consultant role is focused on leading digital transformation projects within the manufacturing sector, specifically in bottling plant operations. The consultant will leverage extensive experience to gather requirements, design solutions, and ensure alignment with operational workflows and strategic KPIs. This position requires strong collaboration with business teams and technical implementation expertise, particularly in IT-OT integration. The role is based in London with an initial onsite commitment, followed by travel to other European sites.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading requirement-gathering workshops with plant stakeholders.
  • Partnering with business teams to analyze as-is processes and translate operational challenges into digital use cases.
  • Defining functional requirements and translating them into technical specifications.
  • Validating process flows and ensuring alignment with KPIs such as OEE, yield, and sustainability.
  • Supporting the design of the Digital Twin architecture, including data models, simulation logic, and visualization layers.
  • Collaborating with the development team to create user stories, test scenarios, and training materials.
  • Leveraging knowledge of bottling line equipment, SCADA/MES systems, and quality control processes.
  • Enabling integration with digital models and AI/ML algorithms for continuous improvement.
  • Active participation in the Digital Twin project lifecycle – Discovery, design, pilot, testing, deployment, and scaling.

Job Description:

Required Core Skills:

  • Subject matter expert in Manufacturing – IT-OT, Digital & Autonomous Mfg
  • Ability to collaborate and execute large, complex, Digital Transformation projects.
  • Excellent communication skills, Team player, Advise large delivery team
  • Strategic and business acumen

  • Needs to have software experience and ability to understand ERP data so they can talk to data people as well.
  • Needs to translate technical requirements. Will lead technical discussions so it cannot be someone who requires much training.
  • Ideally should have food and beverage manufacturing experience as the processes and systems are different for example compared to the automotive industry.
  • During the first 6 months the subcon will be working only from the client’s site in London. After the 6 months, there will be traveling expected to other sites in Europe (one week of travel each month). The traveling costs will be covered.

This initiative requires strong manufacturing domain expertise, particularly in bottling plant operations, to gather and standardize requirements across geographically distributed sites and to design a robust, scalable solution blueprint. Deep understanding of IT-OT integration, manufacturing processes, process modeling, familiarity with industry standards such as ISA-95 for enterprise-control system integration. The Functional Consultant will play a pivotal role in bridging business needs with technical implementation, ensuring that the Digital Twin architecture aligns with both operational workflows and strategic KPIs.
