Summary: The Site Reliability Engineer role focuses on developing and maintaining a resilient cloud-based digital platform for a public sector client in Edinburgh. The position involves supporting system migrations, improving infrastructure automation, and managing Linux-based platforms. Candidates should have a strong background in Linux administration and experience with containerization and automation tools. Flexibility for out-of-hours support and disaster recovery testing is also required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the migration of systems to RHEL 8/9
- Improve infrastructure automation and resilience processes
- Manage and maintain Linux-based platforms and associated tooling
- Implement and maintain observability solutions and monitoring frameworks
- Assist with the setup and maintenance of AWS environments using infrastructure as code
- Provide technical input to improve deployment pipelines and operational efficiency
Key Skills:
- A background in Linux system administration (RHEL 7/8/9) and Scripting (Bash, Perl)
- Hands-on experience with containerisation technologies and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift)
- Solid understanding of automation using Ansible and infrastructure as code practices
- Familiar with CI/CD practices, version control systems, and automated deployment pipelines
- Practical knowledge of monitoring solutions such as Prometheus, Grafana, and time-series databases
- Comfortable working in Agile teams and adapting to change
- Experience with backup solutions, virtualisation (KVM), and Scripting in Python (desirable)
- Familiarity with database technologies including Oracle and MongoDB (desirable)
- Understanding of cloud-native security and architectural best practices (desirable)

You will be involved with
