The Opportunity

Are you an experienced, self-sufficient Site Engineer with full GPS setting-out kit and total station equipment, available for an immediate short-term cover assignment in Teesside?

Search Consultancy is recruiting a skilled Site Engineer for a short-term infrastructure/civil project at Teesport (Middlesbrough). Offering a highly competitive, negotiable day/hourly rate under CIS to reflect operatives bringing their own calibrated equipment, this role is ideal for a precision engineer looking for immediate, lucrative contract work.

If you have extensive experience establishing site control, reading complex engineering drawings, and delivering accurate setting-out for earthworks, drainage, and structural foundations on port/industrial sites, we want to hear from you today.

Your Role & Responsibilities

Working closely with the Project Manager, Civil Supervisor, and ground gangs, you will provide full engineering control and setting-out across active civil works.

Setting Out & Control

  • Primary and secondary setting-out for bulk earthworks, deep drainage runs, service ducting, concrete slabs, hold-down bolts, and structural foundations using your own GPS and Total Station equipment.

As-Built & Topographical Surveys

  • Carrying out initial ground surveys, volume checks, and detailed as-built surveys to produce accurate AutoCAD drawings and QA records.

Engineering Drawings & Calculations

  • Reading, interpreting, and verifying structural/civil design drawings, identifying discrepancies, and working with site management to resolve technical queries (RFIs).

Quality Assurance & Inspections

  • Verifying excavation levels, steel rebar spacing, shuttering tolerances, and signing off permits-to-dig and pre-pour inspection sheets.

Material & Earthwork Verification

  • Estimating cut-and-fill quantities, tracking site volumes, and monitoring progress against contract drawings.

Requirements & Qualifications

To satisfy port safety protocols and engineering standards, all applicants must possess:

Own Equipment (Mandatory)

  • Full, fully-calibrated GPS kit (Robotic Total Station/GNSS Rover) with current calibration certificates.

CSCS Card

  • Valid White (Professionally Qualified Person) or Black (Manager/Technical Specialist) CSCS card (strictly required).

Qualifications

  • HNC, HND, or Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or relevant survey discipline.

Technical Proficiency

  • Proven expertise operating Leica, Trimble, or Topcon survey hardware alongside AutoCAD software for data processing and as-built production.

Port/Industrial Experience

  • Strong background delivering setting-out on heavy civil engineering, industrial, earthworks, or marine infrastructure projects.

Transport & Security

  • Full UK Driving License, reliable transport to Teesport, and valid photo ID for daily port security access control.

Right to Work

  • Valid proof of right to work in the UK.
