Summary: The role of Freelance Site Engineer involves supporting a leading groundworks contractor on commercial construction projects, focusing on accuracy, quality, and health & safety compliance. Key Responsibilities:
- Carrying out setting out and surveying duties across all stages of commercial groundworks packages
- Accurate installation, checking, and QA of holding down bolts to ensure alignment with structural steel requirements
- Full responsibility for setting out and overseeing drainage works, including foul, surface water, and attenuation systems
- Managing and supervising concrete works, including foundations, pile caps, ground beams, slabs, and external hard standings
- Interpreting and working from technical drawings, specifications, and site documentation
- Producing and maintaining accurate site records, as-built surveys, and QA documentation
- Coordinating with site managers, subcontractors, and other engineering staff to ensure smooth project delivery
- Ensuring all works are carried out in line with health & safety regulations and company procedures
- Identifying and resolving technical issues on-site proactively
Key Skills:
- Demonstrable experience working as a Site Engineer within commercial groundworks environments
- Strong technical knowledge of drainage systems, concrete structures, and structural interfaces (e.g., holding down bolts)
- Proficient in the use of surveying equipment such as Leica or Trimble GPS/Total Stations
- Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and specifications
- Strong organisational and communication skills
- CSCS card (essential)
- SMSTS/SSSTS (advantageous but not essential)
- Own kit preferred, but can be provided if required
