About Our ServiceNow Developer Contract Roles
What does a servicenow developer contractor do?
Organisations bring in ServiceNow Developer contractors to build custom functionality, automated workflows, integration solutions, and application extensions within the ServiceNow platform, using the platform's scripting languages, development tools, and APIs to deliver requirements that go beyond what is achievable through declarative configuration alone. The work involves writing Business Rules, Client Scripts, Script Includes, and Scheduled Jobs in JavaScript, building Flow Designer workflows for process automation, developing Service Portal widgets for customer-facing interfaces, creating custom applications on the App Engine, and building integrations using REST APIs, SOAP web services, and the ServiceNow Integration Hub. ServiceNow Developer contractors are the technical builders within ServiceNow implementation teams, translating functional requirements into platform solutions.
ServiceNow Developer contractors are expected to hold Certified Application Developer or Certified Implementation Specialist credentials alongside strong JavaScript skills and hands-on development experience in production ServiceNow environments. Deep knowledge of the ServiceNow data model, including table inheritance, relationships, and the implications of different field types and table configurations for platform performance, is expected. Experience with GlideRecord for server-side data access, GlideAjax for asynchronous client-server communication, the ServiceNow REST API for external integration, and the scripted REST API for building custom endpoints is widely expected at senior developer level. Familiarity with Automated Test Framework (ATF) for writing automated tests for ServiceNow configurations, and with the ServiceNow PDI and development instance setup practices, is broadly assumed for professional-level developer roles.
What is the market like for servicenow developer contractors?
ServiceNow Developer contracting is a high-volume and well-paying segment within the ServiceNow contractor market. The technical complexity of custom ServiceNow development, the certification requirements, and the production experience needed to write performant, maintainable ServiceNow code means that qualified ServiceNow Developer contractors are in consistently strong demand relative to supply. Implementation projects, platform expansions, and the ongoing development needs of large ServiceNow estates all generate continuous developer contractor demand. The growth of ServiceNow's App Engine platform as a tool for building custom enterprise applications beyond traditional ITSM use cases is expanding the developer contracting market into new application domains. Rates are competitive with other enterprise platform developer markets.
How much do servicenow developer contractors usually earn?
Contract rates for servicenow developer roles typically range from £500 to £900 per day, depending on the scope of the role, required expertise, and the delivery expectations of the engagement.
