The work involves writing Business Rules, Client Scripts, Script Includes, and Scheduled Jobs in JavaScript, building Flow Designer workflows for process automation, developing Service Portal widgets for customer-facing interfaces, creating custom applications on the App Engine, and building integrations using REST APIs, SOAP web services, and the ServiceNow Integration Hub. ServiceNow Developer contractors are the technical builders within ServiceNow implementation teams, translating functional requirements into platform solutions.
ServiceNow Developer contractors are expected to hold Certified Application Developer or Certified Implementation Specialist credentials alongside strong JavaScript skills and hands-on development experience in production ServiceNow environments. Deep knowledge of the ServiceNow data model, including table inheritance, relationships, and the implications of different field types and table configurations for platform performance, is expected. Experience with GlideRecord for server-side data access, GlideAjax for asynchronous client-server communication, the ServiceNow REST API for external integration, and the scripted REST API for building custom endpoints is widely expected at senior developer level.
