Summary: The Service Contract Engineer role requires a skilled individual with a strong technical background in fibre and copper cabling, specifically within a data centre environment. The position involves working night shifts on a continental rota and includes responsibilities such as patching, testing, fault fixing, and installations. Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide resource to cover patching, testing, fault fixing and installations.
  • Be proactive and able to address and resolve issues independently.
  • Racking and decommissioning of hardware, e.g., servers, switches, miscellaneous devices.
  • Installation of plug and play managed power strips (no electrical terminations to be undertaken).
  • Attain and maintain a level of knowledge and capability of SpliceGroup solutions to perform break-fix and small project implementation on both copper and fibre, (including fusion splice & test).
  • Maintain documentation.
  • Compilation of statistics and analysis of data.
  • Report writing.
  • Manage stock levels of all materials on site.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory and best practice health & safety and environmental requirements on site.
  • On call (OOH) as part of a rota 60 minutes response time.

Key Skills:

  • Knowledge of Data Centre technologies/solutions; cold-aisle containment, power, cooling, resilient solution design.
  • Experience in the installation of multi-disciplined cabling systems.
  • Experience of working in high profile data centre and time pressured environments.
  • The ability to confidently communicate and present at all levels.
  • Experienced in Fibre splicing.
  • Experience of ILM and OTDR testing of MM and SM fibre networks.
  • Knowledge of Fibre and Copper Patching and documentation.
  • Knowledge of the Data Communications sector.
  • IT Literate Microsoft office suite.
  • Live within 1 hours travel of Peterborough.
  • Full clean UK driving license.
  • Qualifications: Maths and English GCSE Grade C / 4 or above.
  • Formal training in fibre splicing and testing, City & Guilds is desirable but not essential.
  • Formal training in copper structured cabling, City & Guilds is desirable but not essential.

About We are seeking a skilled Service Contract Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in fibre and copper cabling and experience of working in a data centre environment. The successful candidate will receive a basic salary of £28-32,000 per annum (depending upon experience) and will receive a contract uplift of £4,866 per annum. A car allowance of £4,000 per annum is also payable. Overtime is paid at 1.5 x basic hourly rate. Our Service Contract Engineers are required to work night shifts on a continental rota of four on, four off. Shift times work on a rota system of 18:00 - 04:00 and 20:00 - 06:00.
