Summary: The Senior UX & Service Designer role is a 13-month contract focused on creating user-centered digital services for a public sector client. The position requires expertise in backend development and emphasizes collaboration with stakeholders to ensure technical robustness and scalability. The designer will lead various aspects of UX, service design, and technical integration while adhering to accessibility standards. This role is ideal for someone who can balance design thinking with hands-on development to enhance user experiences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead UX, UI, and service design, ensuring a seamless and engaging experience for users.
  • Conduct user research to understand needs, behaviours, and barriers, translating insights into meaningful design solutions.
  • Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs that align with accessibility and usability standards.
  • Advocate for inclusive and evidence-based design decisions, ensuring compliance with WCAG 2.1 and government standards.
  • Define and own the end-to-end service design, ensuring smooth interaction between frontend and backend services.
  • Develop and maintain design systems to ensure consistency across digital platforms.
  • Work closely with stakeholders, developers, and policymakers to align services with strategic goals.
  • Apply agile methodologies to deliver iterative service improvements.
  • Develop and maintain backend systems and APIs to support seamless user interactions.
  • Work with Node.js, Python, or similar technologies to build secure and scalable solutions.
  • Ensure integration between databases, microservices, and frontend applications.
  • Implement automated workflows and CI/CD pipelines for efficient deployment.
  • Apply best practices in data security, information governance, and API management.
  • Use data analytics and performance metrics to evaluate and refine services.
  • Conduct usability testing, A/B testing, and heatmap analysis to improve digital interactions.
  • Guide teams in making evidence-based product decisions that improve user experience.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and implement services.
  • Engage with public sector leaders, digital teams, and policymakers to define and refine service offerings.
  • Act as a bridge between designers, researchers, and engineers, ensuring alignment between technical and user experience goals.
  • Lead design critiques, workshops, and knowledge-sharing sessions to enhance team capabilities.

Key Skills:

  • Expertise in UX, UI, and service design.
  • Strong background in backend development, particularly with Node.js and Python.
