Summary: The Senior Test Development Engineer role involves designing, manufacturing, verifying, and validating test equipment for a leading defence and aerospace company. The position requires collaboration with hardware and software engineers to ensure robust and reliable solutions while providing leadership to junior engineers. This is a 12-month contract position based in Glenrothes or Livingston, requiring on-site presence four days a week. The role is classified as inside IR35.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design of functional test equipment
  • Take responsibility for the design and overall quality of the test equipment and provide leadership and guidance for junior engineers
  • Documentation of design specifications and implementation details; participate in design reviews
  • Realisation of complex system requirements to provide robust and reliable test hardware solutions
  • Responsibility for the complete implementation of detailed technical items and understanding/appreciation of system level items
  • Collaboration with other team members to agree on system designs, interfaces, and protocols
  • Development of appropriate test hardware, test software, and procedures to prove the correct operation of hardware
  • Provide support to manufacturing by answering product queries and resolving technical issues
  • Proactively support company compliance to Health and Safety legislation
  • Ensure all business activity is conducted in line with company values, policies, and ethics codes of conduct
  • Undertake any other activity as reasonably requested by management
  • Accountable for engineering specific risks and opportunities
  • Contribute to section/business area resource planning with a working understanding of Microsoft Project tools
  • Test Engineering Lead for a small/medium scale test engineering program
  • Contributor/Approver for standard/tailored test development process including IPDS gates and content

Key Skills:

  • Degree qualified in Electronic Engineering or related subject (preferably at 2.1 Hons or higher)
  • Test software design experience
  • Excellent knowledge of analogue and digital electronic circuit design
  • Ability to write comprehensive technical design documentation
  • Proven experience in handover and management of designs in production
  • Significant test development experience in industry (highly desirable)
  • Use of Mentor Graphics schematic entry and PCB layout tools (highly desirable)
  • Understanding of common test architectures PXI/d LXI (highly desirable)
  • Measurement Uncertainty and its application in test equipment design and validation (highly desirable)
  • Software Certification or detailed knowledge of NI LabView, NI CVI, NI TestStand, C# (highly desirable)
  • Design of mixed signal circuits (highly desirable)
