Summary: The Senior Test Development Engineer role in Glenrothes involves designing functional test equipment for circuit cards and systems, ensuring quality and compliance with design standards. Key Responsibilities:

  • Design of functional test equipment for circuit cards, sub-assemblies, and systems.
  • Take responsibility for the design and overall quality of the test equipment and provide leadership and guidance for junior engineers.
  • Documentation of design specifications and implementation details.
  • Take part in design reviews and uphold design standards and methodologies.
  • Realisation of complex system requirements to provide robust and reliable test hardware solutions.
  • Collaboration with other team members to agree on system designs, interfaces, and protocols.
  • Development of appropriate test hardware, test software, and procedures to prove the correct operation of hardware.
  • Provide support to manufacturing, answering product queries and resolving technical issues.
  • Manage obsolescence of test hardware throughout its lifecycle.
  • Monitor and report progress of test development to immediate supervisor and development team.
  • Support company compliance to Health and Safety legislation.
  • Ensure all business activity is conducted in line with company values, policies, and ethics codes of conduct.
  • Undertake any other activity as reasonably requested by management.
  • Application of Design Review Processes and accountability for engineering specific risks and opportunities.
  • Key contributor at Gate/Design reviews and provide guidance on Test Development processes and tools.
  • Contribute to section/business area resource planning with a working understanding of Microsoft Project tools.
  • Act as Test Engineering Lead for a small/medium scale test engineering program.
  • Identify and engage appropriate SMEs to support Test Development Engineering activities.
  • Contributor/Approver for standard/tailored test development processes including Design Review gates and content.
  • Key interface to external customers/suppliers.

Key Skills:

  • Test software design experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of analogue and digital electronic circuit design.
  • Ability to write comprehensive technical design documentation.
  • Proven experience in handover and management of designs in production.
  • Excellent hardware troubleshooting skills.
  • Able to support/debug system integration.
  • Experience in the Defence / Aerospace or safety regulated environment (advantageous).
  • Significant test development experience in industry.
  • Use of Mentor Graphics schematic entry and PCB layout tools.
  • Understanding of common test architectures PXI/d LXI.
  • Measurement Uncertainty and its application in test equipment design and validation.
  • Software Certification or detailed knowledge of: NI LabView, NI CVI, NI TestStand, C#.
  • Design of mixed signal circuits and high-speed serial networks.
  • An appreciation of RF electronics and knowledge of power supply design.

We have multiple opportunities available with this team and are on the lookout for both perm and contract members of the team!

Responsibilities:

  • Design of functional test equipment for circuit cards, sub-assemblies and systems.
  • To take responsibility for the design and overall quality of the test equipment and provide leadership and guidance for junior engineers.
  • Documentation of design specifications and implementation details.
  • Take part in design reviews.
  • Upholding of design standards and methodologies.
  • Realisation of complex system requirements to provide robust and reliable test hardware solutions.
  • Responsibility for the complete implementation of detailed technical items and an understanding/appreciation of system level items.
  • Collaboration with other team members (including both hardware and software engineers) to agree system designs, interfaces and protocols etc.
  • Development of appropriate test hardware, test software and procedures, both informal and formal, to prove the correct operation of hardware.
  • Provide support to manufacturing answering product queries & resolving technical issues.
  • Provide support for the test hardware and manage obsolescence throughout its lifecycle.
