Summary: The Senior Data Science Specialist will join the technical operations team at the University of Manchester, focusing on developing advanced time-series modeling and prediction algorithms for SF6 leakage analysis. This role requires a strong commitment to customer service and collaboration with staff and students to enhance teaching, research, and professional services. The position involves setting up machine learning platforms, data collection, and model testing, contributing to a sector-leading technical service. Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop advanced time-series modeling and prediction algorithms for SF6 leakage analysis.
  • Provide agile technical support to staff and students in teaching, research, and professional services.
  • Set up data science machine learning platforms and libraries.
  • Collect and curate monitoring and leakage data from collaborators.
  • Design and build robust time series models for predictive maintenance.
  • Test developed models at various sites and integrate for operational tests.
  • Report and liaise with the University of Manchester team and project stakeholders.

Key Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of time series models (e.g., ARIMA) and machine learning models (e.g., recurrent networks, CNNs, LSTM, autoencoders).
  • Experience in optimization and scheduling.
  • Strong programming skills in relevant languages.
  • Excellent time management and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with data science libraries (e.g., Statsmodels, Scikit Learn, Pytorch, Tensorflow).
