Senior Technical Accounting and Financial Modelling Manager

Posted 1 day ago by Alexander Mann Solutions (Contingent)

Job description - the role

On behalf of PwC, we are looking for a Senior Technical Accounting and Financial Modelling Manager for a 6 month contract based in Birmingham, on a hybrid working pattern of 3 days on site and 2 from home, on a day rate engagement. Join us as a Senior Technical Accounting and Financial Modelling Manager. The Group Finance team requires an experienced technical accountant and financial modeller to support impairment assessments, going concern analysis and other complex, judgemental reporting matters. The role combines deep accounting knowledge with the ability to build, develop and remediate robust Excel models and prepare clear, audit-ready position papers. This is not a general financial planning and analysis role or a spreadsheet-maintenance role. The successful candidate must connect the model design, source data, forecasts, assumptions and sensitivities to the relevant accounting requirements and management conclusion, and support the work through external audit challenge.

What you'll do:

  • Build, develop, remediate and maintain robust Excel-based financial models supporting impairment, going concern, liquidity, covenant and related judgemental accounting assessments.
  • Ensure impairment and going concern models are appropriately designed for their distinct purposes while maintaining consistency between common forecasts, assumptions and source information.
  • Translate the relevant accounting requirements into clear modelling methodologies, including IAS 36 and IAS 1 where applicable and the relevant UK GAAP requirements for entity-level assessments.
  • Develop and document appropriate base, downside and severe-but-plausible scenarios, sensitivities, headroom analysis and mitigating actions.
  • Assess impairment considerations relevant to goodwill, intangible assets, property, plant and equipment, investments and intercompany balances, as applicable to the assigned workstreams.
  • Review existing models for structural weaknesses, formula errors, unsupported assumptions, inconsistencies, inadequate controls or gaps in the audit trail, and implement proportionate remediation.
  • Create transparent model structures with clearly separated inputs, calculations and outputs.

The skills you'll need:

  • ACA, ACCA, ICAS or an equivalent recognised professional accountancy qualification.
  • Deep technical accounting knowledge, including practical experience applying IFRS to complex and judgemental matters.
  • Practical experience of impairment assessments and going concern analysis, including the relevant requirements of IAS 36 and IAS 1.
  • Advanced Excel financial modelling capability, demonstrated through substantial experience personally building or materially redesigning complex models rather than only operating existing templates.
  • Experience developing forecast cash flows, scenario and sensitivity analysis, liquidity or covenant assessments and appropriate model integrity checks.
  • Ability to trace model inputs to approved source information and explain the relationship between assumptions, calculations, outputs, disclosures and the accounting conclusion.
  • Demonstrable experience drafting audit-ready technical accounting and modelling papers.
  • Experience within a listed, multinational or comparably complex group involving multiple business units, entities or territories.
