Summary: The Senior Technical Accountant role involves providing maternity cover for a Lloyd’s Syndicate, focusing on the month-end close process, regulatory returns, and financial reporting. The position requires collaboration with underwriting and actuarial teams to analyze earnings patterns and ensure compliance with Solvency II. The role is critical during the implementation of a new policy administration system, emphasizing control and reconciliation. This is a fixed-term contract lasting 12 to 15 months, with a flexible start date ideally in June or July.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the month-end close process with strong emphasis on control and reconciliation
  • Prepare and review Lloyd’s regulatory returns including QMA (Delta/Flash), QSR, QAD, QMB, and Annual/Interim returns
  • Assist in the production of Syndicate statutory accounts
  • Partner closely with Underwriting and Actuarial to explain movements, earnings patterns, and policy behaviour
  • Reconcile technical provisions and manage the GAAP to Solvency II process
  • Maintain and enhance trial balance controls
  • Support ledger management (SUN) and assist with any improvements or system changes
  • Act as the finance SME during the rollout and bedding-in of the new policy admin system

Key Skills:

  • Strong experience in Lloyd’s reporting and Syndicate accounting
  • Deep understanding of the close process, earnings recognition (RIP, EPI, etc.), and how underwriting data feeds into reporting
  • Experienced in reconciling technical provisions and understanding Solvency II requirements
  • Confident explaining variances, movements and developing analytical insight
  • Advanced Excel skills, comfortable manipulating data and interrogating large sets
  • Comfortable in small, hands-on teams where cross-functional collaboration is key
  • Desirable: Experience with SUN systems
  • Desirable: Knowledge of Phinsys (implementation or BAU use)
  • Desirable: Track record of process improvement within Lloyd’s finance
