Summary: The Principal Systems Engineer role involves leading the development of advanced Command and Control (C2) solutions across various domains, requiring a strong technical leader to engage with customers during early project phases. Key Responsibilities:
- Identify emerging technologies to shape future technology roadmaps.
- Define CONEMP/CONOPS and conduct Operational Analysis at a "system of systems" level.
- Capture and analyse customer needs to establish high-level architectures and system requirements.
- Coordinate technical aspects of bids, including delivery planning and innovative solutioning.
- Act as a technical mentor to the team and collaborate with Resource Management.
- Manage technical risks and ensure adherence to delivery plans throughout the lifecycle.
Key Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in a recognized aerospace or STEM subject.
- Extensive experience across the full engineering lifecycle.
- Deep understanding of Military Communication Systems and Heterogeneous Networks.
- Experience with system modeling using Cameo or Enterprise Architect.
- Familiarity with Open/Reference Architectures such as MOSA, SOSA, or MDIS.

My Client is looking for a Principal Systems Engineer to lead the development of advanced Command and Control (C2) , communication, and networking solutions across air, land, and maritime domains. As a key technical leader, you will engage directly with customers during the early conceptual and definition phases of the project lifecycle, building systems from first principles. The team utilises Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) within an Agile framework .
Core Responsibilities
- Strategic Technology Leadership: Identify emerging technologies (AI, autonomy, networking) to shape future technology roadmaps.
- System Architecture & Design: Define CONEMP/CONOPS and conduct Operational Analysis at a "system of systems" level.
- Requirement Management: Capture and analyse customer needs to establish high-level architectures and system requirements.
- Technical Bid Management: Coordinate technical aspects of bids, including delivery planning, innovative solutioning, and work breakdown structures.
- Mentorship & Collaboration: Act as a technical mentor to the team and collaborate with Resource Management to assign tasks to qualified personnel.
- Project Oversight: Manage technical risks, ensure adherence to delivery plans throughout the lifecycle, and provide guidance on engineering processes and tools.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Education and Experience
- STEM Degree: Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a recognized aerospace or STEM subject.
- Lifecycle Expertise: Extensive experience across the full engineering lifecycle, with a focus on early-stage concept development.
- Technical Proficiency: Deep understanding of Military Communication Systems , Heterogenous Networks, and security functions.
- Modeling Tools: Experience with system modeling using Cameo or Enterprise Architect .
Preferred Skills & Knowledge
- Architectures: Familiarity with Open/Reference Architectures such as MOSA, SOSA, or MDIS .
- Advanced Networking: Knowledge of SDWAN, cloud networking (Azure/AWS), and routing/switching (Cisco, Aruba, etc.).
