Summary: The Principal Systems Engineer role focuses on the analysis of radar trial data to enhance system performance verification. This hands-on position requires expertise in handling complex datasets and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to support the development of defence capabilities. The role is based in Edinburgh and requires SC Clearance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyse large scale datasets from rig and flight trials to assess radar performance against system requirements
- Apply signal processing, image processing, and classification techniques to extract meaningful engineering insight
- Investigate system anomalies using real trial data and support root cause analysis
- Raise and manage System Problem Reports (SPR) for further technical investigation
- Work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to support development and prototyping of defence capabilities
- Contribute to System Verification & Validation (V&V) activities across the lifecycle
Key Skills:
- Strong experience using MATLAB for large dataset analysis
- Proven background working within the V-model lifecycle, particularly integration, test, and V&V phases
- Experience in safety-critical engineering environments (e.g. defence, aerospace, or similar regulated industries)
- Familiarity with radar or complex sensor systems is highly desirable
- Comfortable working with real-world experimental data and system level performance issues

We’re looking for an experienced Principal Systems Engineer to support the ongoing development of an in-service radar system, with a strong focus on trials analysis (rig and flight test data) and system performance verification. This is a hands-on engineering role working directly with real-world radar trial data, where you’ll be responsible for turning complex datasets into actionable system-level insights.
