Summary: The role of Senior Social Care Solicitor involves providing legal services to the council and community services within the social care directorate. The position requires extensive experience in social care law, advising clients, and conducting litigation. The solicitor will also participate in departmental meetings and provide guidance to team members. Evening meetings may be required as part of the responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advise Council, Executive, Committees, Officers and Departments of the Council on legal matters primarily, but not exclusively, relating to all areas of Social Services including attendance at evening meetings as required.
- Drafting and settling of legal documentation with particular reference to social care matters.
- Conduct of litigation with particular reference to social care matters.
- Give clear guidance and assistance to all members of the team in respect of the areas of expertise specific to the postholder and to assist and cover for other team members, as necessary.
- Representation of the department externally, as required.
- Participation in departmental working groups, as required.
Key Skills:
- Qualified Solicitor / Barrister.
- Ideally with Social Care and local government experience.
- Extensive experience of advising Social Work clients and their managers.
- Extensive post qualification experience in conducting social care proceedings.
- Using negotiating, persuading and influencing skills to bring about change and achieve desired results/outcomes as necessary.
