Summary: The Senior Site Technician is responsible for overseeing high-quality materials testing services in construction and infrastructure projects. This role includes supervising site testing activities, mentoring junior technicians, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. The technician will also liaise with various stakeholders to coordinate testing services and maintain accurate records. A strong background in materials testing and leadership skills are essential for success in this position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform and oversee site-based materials testing of soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and other construction materials in accordance with BS, ASTM, EN, or other relevant standards.
- Lead a team of technicians, providing mentorship, on-site training, and technical support.
- Ensure correct sampling techniques, preparation, and execution of field and laboratory tests.
- Liaise with site engineers, contractors, and clients to schedule and coordinate testing services.
- Accurately record and report test data using digital or paper-based systems.
- Conduct on-site quality checks and verify test results for consistency and accuracy.
- Maintain calibration and upkeep of field testing equipment and ensure adherence to QA/QC procedures.
- Assist in risk assessments, method statements, and ensure all work is carried out in compliance with health and safety protocols.
- Support the development and implementation of new testing procedures or technologies.
Key Skills:
- Minimum 5 years' experience in materials testing, with at least 2 years in a senior or supervisory role.
- Recognized qualifications in Construction Materials Testing, Civil Engineering, or a related field (e.g., BTEC, NVQ, or equivalent).
- Extensive knowledge of BS/EN/ASTM test methods for construction materials.
- Full UK driving license (or relevant for your region) and willingness to travel to various sites.
- Valid CSCS card or equivalent site safety certification.
- Experience with site health & safety practices and RAMS documentation.
- Certification in testing disciplines (e.g., UKAS, BRE, or equivalent).
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and digital data recording tools.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Familiarity with ISO 17025 standards.
- Self-motivated and dependable with strong attention to detail.
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying site conditions.
