Summary: The Senior Safeguarding Practitioner role at Shropshire County Council involves overseeing adult safeguarding processes, conducting risk assessments, and implementing protection plans for vulnerable adults. The position requires a qualified social worker with extensive experience in safeguarding and knowledge of relevant legislation. This part-time role is hybrid and is contracted for a three-month period. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with safeguarding principles and producing accurate reports.
Key Responsibilities:
- Directing enquiries into adult safeguarding issues.
- Chairing adult safeguarding meetings.
- Implementing and overseeing safeguarding processes in line with the Care Act 2014.
- Identifying and assessing risks to adults with care and support needs.
- Developing and implementing protection plans to reduce risks.
- Ensuring all safeguarding practices align with Making Safeguarding Personal principles.
- Applying the Mental Capacity Act 2005 within adult safeguarding cases.
- Producing clear and accurate reports and maintaining electronic service user records.
Key Skills:
- Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England.
- Proven experience in adult safeguarding and chairing safeguarding meetings.
- In-depth knowledge of the Care Act 2014 and its impact on safeguarding practices.
- Strong understanding of risk identification and protection planning.
- Excellent report writing and electronic record-keeping skills.
- Ability to deliver person-centred safeguarding outcomes.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, including Mental Capacity Act 2005, Mental Health Act 1983, Carers Acts 1995 & 2000, NHS and Community Care Act 1990, and Care Act 2014.
- Understanding of CQC's role in safeguarding.
- Completion of specialist adult safeguarding training (desirable).
- Experience in supervisory or management roles (desirable).
- Familiarity with the criminal justice system (desirable).
- Proven ability to manage staff.
- Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent time management with the ability to prioritise workload.
- Adaptability to work within a changing organisation.
- High professional standards even under pressure.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good IT skills for record-keeping and reporting.
