Summary: Our client, a leader in the rail infrastructure sector, is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor for a long-term contract in Huddersfield. The role involves providing commercial support on a high-profile rail project while ensuring successful project delivery outside IR35 regulations. The position requires strong project management skills and the ability to interface with various stakeholders. Ideal candidates will have a solid background in contractor-side project environments and relevant qualifications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide pre/post contract commercial support for designated projects, including subcontract, materials, and direct labour.
- Ensure projects are delivered within cost and time constraints.
- Act as a primary interface working with Project Managers, Work Package Managers, key stakeholders, and suppliers.
- Responsible for project work package change control and management.
- Provide contractual and commercial support to Project Managers and Engineering.
- Responsible for work package cost management, including forecasting, budget management, and control.
- Monitor and actively manage and mitigate work package risks.
- Produce internal and external commercial reports in line with the Commercial Delivery Strategy.
- Ensure processes and document control comply with appropriate company standards.
- Establish and maintain interfaces with key stakeholders such as finance, project management, engineering, sub-contractors, suppliers, and customers.
Key Skills:
- Degree qualified or equivalent and/or holding or working towards a professional qualification (RICS, ICES, or similar).
- Strong track record in a contractor-side project environment.
- Ability to manage both direct labour and subcontract costs.
- Skill in estimating change/variations using various methods.
- Able to forecast cost and measure the cost of work completed.
- Good negotiation skills.
- Ability to manage commercial strategies.
- Capability to work with limited supervision and manage expectations.
- Good financial and commercial acumen.
- Proficiency in working under own initiative and managing cost or time critical conditions.
- Sound contractual knowledge and experience.
- Confidence and ability to communicate effectively at all levels, both internally and externally.
