Summary: The Senior Quality Engineer at Morgan Sindall Infrastructure is responsible for ensuring that work meets customer standards, specifications, and schedules while managing quality assurance and control activities. This role involves coaching and developing local management systems, engaging with stakeholders, and promoting a culture of quality within the organization. The position requires collaboration with integrated teams to implement quality plans and monitor performance, ultimately contributing to the delivery of safe and resilient infrastructure. The role is based in Cumbria and may involve occasional travel to other locations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain, and improve local management systems for effective delivery.
  • Verify compliance with quality requirements and assist in resolving on-site issues.
  • Engage with stakeholders to promote a joined-up approach to quality.
  • Assess suppliers' ability to meet specified requirements.
  • Collaborate with teams to prepare and implement quality and inspection plans.
  • Review and accept supply chain quality submissions.
  • Define quality and lifetime record strategies for projects.
  • Promote the Quality Policy and support a healthy quality culture.
  • Define and implement QA/QC activities to deliver expected results.
  • Analyze QA/QC outputs and engage with teams for potential solutions.
  • Communicate quality performance to management for effective decision-making.
  • Provide oversight of the quality management system and advise users.
  • Lead inspections, audits, and investigations, reporting lessons learned.
  • Identify and share learning from experience to promote continual improvement.
  • Maintain personal and professional development and support staff training.

Key Skills:

  • Trained Internal or Lead Auditor to ISO 9001 (desirable).
  • Management skills with at least 2 years of team management experience.
  • Operational or Project experience within the Nuclear Industry or similar environments.
  • Knowledge in a Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and Automation (MEICA) environment (desirable).
  • Ability to ensure standards and specifications are met.
  • Wide understanding of the industry, including materials and legal requirements.
  • Effective engagement with all levels of the organization and stakeholders.
  • Relevant security clearance level (if applicable).
  • Ability to develop and improve management system arrangements.

Job Description

To make sure that work is carried out to the customer’s standards, specification and schedule and that the correct materials and workmanship are used; ensuring the customer is given quality work and value for money. Deploying quality assurance and control activities to support right first-time delivery for their area. Deploying quality improvement plans in accordance with relevant objectives. Using, capturing and sharing learning from experience to support improvement in quality performance. The Senior Quality Engineer will report directly to the Senior Quality Manager and manage a number of scope packages and Quality Professionals (Quality Engineer/Quality Support).

Requirements

Trained Internal or Lead Auditor to ISO 9001 (desirable) Practitioner/Member of the CQI or working towards Practitioner level as a minimum Good management skills, with at least 2 years’ experience of managing a team, with the ability to motivate self and colleagues to achieve high standards of compliance. Operational or Project experience within the Nuclear Industry or in an environment with similar complexity and risk, sufficient to understand and review end to end processes and propose quality improvements. Knowledge & background in a Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and Automation (MEICA) environment (desirable). Previous experience with temporary works. Ability to ensure standards and specifications are met. Have a wide understanding of the industry, including knowledge of materials, trades, methods and legal requirements Able to engage effectively with all levels of the PPP organisation, suppliers and Stakeholders, to provide coaching, education and challenge and to act as an effective interface between all parties. Relevant security clearance level to access and inspect areas of site within area of responsibility (if applicable). Able to work collaboratively with integrated teams to prepare quality plans and inspection plans and define requirements for lifetime records. Able to use and develop appropriate tools and techniques (including audits, key performance indicators/ dashboards to support trending) to monitor quality performance and measure processes effectiveness. Able to develop, maintain and improve management system arrangements and promote procedural adherence to support right first-time quality delivery Excellent working knowledge of industry techniques Good planning and time management skills; able to manage activities simultaneously without compromising on standards and quality Sound knowledge of construction practises and standards Excellent working knowledge of industry techniques Flexible with location – willing to work both on and off site, as the project evolves.
