Summary: The Senior QA Automation Engineer (Maternity Cover) at Friend MTS is responsible for supporting the QA team and Engineering department for an interim period of 11 months. This role focuses on maintaining and enhancing the current system through bug fixes and feature improvements while ensuring quality throughout the software development lifecycle. The position involves collaboration with Development teams, particularly the Portal Development team, and requires both manual and automated testing expertise. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in QA processes and a commitment to quality assurance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the Portal team with manual testing of tickets day to day.
- Run and update the Test Regression automation pack as required.
- Liaise with other teams to support testing of tickets and test data creation.
- Liaise with Customer Service and Operations teams for feedback and UAT.
- Take part in daily and weekly agile ceremonies, contributing estimates and providing test feedback.
Key Skills:
- ISTQB/ISEB Foundation certification.
- 5+ years of experience in a manual testing role.
- Experience writing and running automation tests.
- Demonstrable hands-on experience of utilising AI tooling during the QA testing processes.
- Collaborating with Product Management and Engineering Teams to define both functional and non-functional requirements.
- Develop appropriate and maintainable automated tests for robust and comprehensive functional and regression testing.
- Translate functional requirements into test scripts and execute as required.
- Assist the development/engineering teams with estimating, prioritising and planning.
- Act as a champion of quality within the team, highlighting risks and ensuring quality standards are addressed.
- Test automation and script creation across software such as Playwright/Gauge (or equivalent).
- Knowledge of JavaScript.
- Experience working with GitLab.
- Experience working in Agile development processes.
- Knowledge of SQL to support Database querying for test results.
- Previous experience of working in the broadcasting industry.

About the Role… We are looking for a Senior QA Automation Engineer as Maternity Cover to join us on an interim contract for 11 months to support the QA team and Engineering department. This QA Engineering role is based within the FriendMTS Engineering department and involves collaborating with Development teams, specifically the Portal Development team. The primary focus is on maintaining and enhancing the current system through bug fixes and feature improvements. A key aspect of this position is to ensure quality is integrated throughout the entire software development lifecycle, from initial requirements gathering to User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and release.
As one of our Senior QA Automation Engineers, you will:
- Support the Portal team with manual testing of tickets day to day.
- Run and update the Test Regression automation pack as required.
- Liaise with other teams to support testing of tickets and test data creation.
- Liaise with Customer Service and Operations teams for feedback and UAT.
- Take part in daily and weekly agile ceremonies- contributing estimates and providing test feedback.
To be set up for success as our Senior QA Automation Engineer, you will have:
- ISTQB/ ISEB Foundation certification.
- 5+ years of experience in a manual testing role.
