Summary: The Senior Project Manager will oversee the procurement, construction, and delivery of projects for a Train Operating Company, ensuring alignment with business outcomes. This role requires a strong focus on health, safety, and environmental standards, as well as risk and quality management. The successful candidate will lead a project team, manage stakeholder relationships, and ensure compliance with legal obligations. The position is based in Birmingham and is indicative of being outside IR35.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the project team in the procurement, construction and delivery of the project to achieve desired business outcomes.
  • Lead the development and maintenance of a culture of world class health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Formally manages risks through the use of the WMT Risk Management process.
  • Manages all aspects of quality management, ensures quality is implemented throughout and lessons learned are captured.
  • Deliver to defined cost, schedule, and quality requirements, leading the successful handover of assigned projects ensuring all Operational Readiness planning and activities are in place.
  • Lead the development of the project team; set standards, manage, motivate, coach and mentor staff within the team. Recognise talent and assist in the development of those with high potential.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal and statutory obligations applicable to this role, including all standards and code compliance, and required planning permissions.
  • Manage and positively influence key stakeholders (both internal & external).
  • Ensure projects are completed within planned budget, timeline and quality/compliance standards.

Key Skills:

  • Experience working client side within the rail sector (preferably on Depots).
  • NEC3 / NEC4 working knowledge.
  • Obtained or working towards EngTech, IEng, CEng or Equivalent.
  • A PRINCE2 Practitioner/ APM PMQ qualification or equivalent.
  • Health and Safety Qualification – IOSH minimum.
  • A postgraduate University degree in Engineering, Architecture, Project Management, Business or significant operational experience.
  • Attained Level 3 Competency in at least eight of the PMO Competency Categories in the Framework below.
