Summary: The role of Senior Product Owner involves leading the development of a mortgage origination product for a FinTech company, requiring strong communication skills with senior banking stakeholders. The position is contract-based for six months and is classified as outside IR35. The candidate will work in a hybrid environment, spending two days a week on-site in Cardiff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Shape the direction of a mortgage origination product used by large financial institutions.
- Communicate effectively with senior banking stakeholders.
- Gather and write user stories, set sprint goals, and prioritize backlogs.
- Collaborate closely with engineers and UX designers to develop products.
- Plan releases and manage product roadmaps.
- Deliver projects on time while managing stakeholder expectations.
Key Skills:
- Previous experience as a Senior Product Owner or similar role in financial services.
- Experience in the Mortgages, Loans, or Savings sector.
- Confident communication skills with senior stakeholders.
- Hands-on experience with tools like Jira and Azure DevOps.
- Ability to analyze user data to drive improvements.
- Technical understanding of Postman, SQL tools, and API testing.

Product Owner – Mortgage Origination | Contract | Outside IR35 6-month contract Cardiff - Hybrid - 2 days p/week onsite ideally Outside IR35 £500–£600/day DOE We’re hiring an experienced Senior Product Owner/Consultant for a growing FinTech focused on digital lending. You’ll be shaping the direction of a mortgage origination product used by large financial institutions. You must be able to speak the language of banks and hold your own in conversations with senior stakeholders.
What we need:
- Previous experience as a Snr Product Owner (or similar role – e.g. Business Analyst or Scrum Master) in the financial services sector
- Experience working within Mortgages, Loans or Savings sector is essential
- Confident communicator with Senior Banking Stakeholders
- Skilled at gathering and writing user stories, setting sprint goals, prioritising backlogs
- Hands-on with tools like Jira, Azure DevOps
- Able to work closely with engineers and UX designers to get things built
- Experience planning releases, managing product roadmaps
- Previous experience as a Product Owner, or similar role in software delivery with hands-on experience of managing aspects of the product life-cycle
Nice to have:
- Exposure to competitor lending products
- Strong sense of MVP vs “nice to have”
- Technical understanding (Postman, SQL tools, API testing, etc.)
- Ability to analyse user data and issues to drive improvements
