About the role
This role sits within Product in one of our three established feature teams and takes us to a total of 5 designers at Vypr.
We’re making it our own but we’ve been following Basecamp’s shapeup methodology and working to a 6 week delivery cadence.
Who you are
A clear communicator. In your written work and in your conversations. You know that asking questions to clarify your understanding is important and you can speak confidently about your approach and decisions, pitching at the correct level of detail dependant on context and who you are working with.
Collaborative. You move between individual focussed work and group collaboration easily. You have a good instinct for when to partner with other team members and canvassing for feedback and critique is a key part of how you work. Conversing with different disciplines is comfortable and you will be just as happy working with a member of the sales team as you would another designer. You know that building strong relationships with other colleagues is crucial to you understanding problems and being able to distil them down into design solutions that are useful and easily understood.
Flexible. You flex your approach depending on where you are in the product development process. If you’re navigating ambiguity you know what to do to create clarity for yourself and your team members. If you’re working through something that’s already well defined you appreciate the clear goal and focus in on how to deliver to it. You know how to break down complex problems using maps, flows, prototypes, wireframes, written documents or quick sketches to increase your understanding and make progress.
Comfortable working in cycles. You're happy operating within a shaping and feature-delivery rhythm - contributing to shaping conversations, committing to a scope for a cycle, and adapting your process to fit fixed-time, variable-scope delivery.
A problem solver. You enjoy picking apart a problem and finding evidence to help you solve it. Whether its data or user research you look for information to help you make good decisions. You know there are always 100+ different ways to solve a user need and you demonstrate good judgement zeroing in on solutions that do this well and align back to the product goals.
Your experience
You have worked in an agile product team as a UX designer, UI designer, interaction designer, designer or product designer.
You are used to delivering value to users regularly through iterative releases.
Even better if you’ve worked with Shape Up before.
You have designed for websites and apps and have a good grasp of the nuances between different platforms.
You’re comfortable talking to users and are knowledgeable about user research best practice.
You have good command of UX design, visual design and service design and can move in and out of detail comfortably.
You're comfortable working alongside a content designer to ensure product and content decisions stay aligned.
