Summary: The Senior Process Engineer will lead engineering activities on complex nuclear decommissioning projects, requiring extensive technical expertise and leadership skills. Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development, review, and delivery of process engineering designs and documentation for decommissioning projects.
- Conduct hazard identification (HAZID), HAZOP studies, ALARP assessments, and optioneering.
- Define and specify process systems for waste treatment, effluent handling, ventilation, and decontamination.
- Ensure compliance with nuclear safety cases, site license conditions, and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including safety, mechanical, EC&I, and project engineers.
- Develop and validate mass balances, process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and process descriptions.
- Support commissioning, testing, and operational readiness planning for decommissioning systems.
- Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers and contribute to knowledge-sharing within the engineering function.
- Participate in design reviews and client meetings, ensuring timely and high-quality technical deliverables.
- Interface with clients, stakeholders, and regulators as a senior technical representative.
Key Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 10+ years of proven process engineering experience, including concept through to detailed design.
- Minimum 5 years of experience working on nuclear projects, preferably within decommissioning.
- Strong knowledge of UK nuclear safety standards, Sellafield standards (if applicable), and decommissioning methodologies.
- Chartered Engineer status (IChemE or equivalent) or actively working towards it (desirable).
- Experience working on projects at Sellafield, Magnox, or other UK nuclear licensed sites (desirable).
- Familiarity with radioactive waste management, retrievals, and treatment technologies (desirable).
- Experience using process simulation tools (e.g. Aspen HYSYS, ChemCAD) (desirable).
