Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop key design deliverables such as Process Flow Diagrams and Process & Instrumentation Diagrams.
  • Check and approve calculations including mass, energy, and flow balances.
  • Ensure design deliverables meet high standards and comply with relevant regulations.
  • Produce technically accurate and professionally presented documentation.
  • Prepare and review quality plans for work packages.
  • Manage technical issues and implement necessary change control.
  • Ensure designs comply with CDM regulations and present designs to clients and stakeholders.
  • Mentor engineers/designers to enhance skills and capabilities.

Key Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related discipline.
  • Chartered Member of the IChemE.
  • Detailed knowledge of relevant standards, regulations, and codes.
  • At least 8+ years of industry experience, with 3 years at Senior Engineer level.
  • Ideally 5+ years in the nuclear industry or other highly regulated sectors.

Westlakes Recruit are currently recruiting for an experienced Process Engineer to be engaged on a contract basis, based in Preston.

Overview

Responsible for leading the delivery of all Process Engineering requirements across either a single large/complex project or multiple medium sized/complexity projects.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the project's single point of authority and accountability for the process engineering discipline
  • Dependent on project scope, lead a multi-disciplined engineering team reporting to the Project Manager and working closely with the clients responsible engineering team.
  • Responsible for the development key design deliverables such as Process drawings: Process Flow Diagrams and Process & Instrumentation Diagrams/Engineering Flow Diagrams.
  • Checking and Approval of calculations including mass, energy and flow balances, pipe and equipment sizing.
  • Ensure that design deliverables are of a high standard and compliant with relevant standards, regulations and customer specific standards.
  • Ensuring that design consultants and sub-contractors deploy suitably qualified and experienced personnel.
  • Production of documentation that is technically accurate, grammatically correct, correctly formatted and professionally presented
  • Preparing and reviewing quality plans for multi or single discipline work packages
  • Ensure work delivered is within the defined scope and completed to time and budget.
  • Manage resolutions to technical issues and ensure necessary change control is implemented and address commercial impacts.
  • Ensure designs are compliant with CDM regulations and have designer responsibility under CDM
  • Present Process engineering designs to clients and key stakeholders who may be discipline experts or non-discipline related.
  • Present technical solutions at design reviews and HAZOPs
  • Production and checking of safety related documents such as Hazard Management Strategy and Engineering Substantiation / Justifications Report.
  • Mentor a team of engineers/designers to improve their own skill sets and enhance the company's capabilities
  • Develop and manage/maintain good working relationships with key counterparts in client or partner organisation

Knowledge/Skills

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or associated discipline
  • Chartered Member of the IChemE
  • Detailed knowledge of standards, regulations, codes and directives and how they should be applied including (but not limited to) Pressure Equipment Regulations, COMAH, COSHH, DSEAR etc.

Essential experience

  • At least 8+ years' experience in industry at least 3 years at Senior Engineer level
  • Ideally 5+ years in the nuclear industry or other highly regulated sector
