Overview
Our client has an urgent requirement for an experienced Senior Process Engineer with proven knowledge and practical experience of the SIMUL8 (TRAM) package to support the delivery of a major UK nuclear programme.
This position is location agnostic, offering flexibility for candidates based anywhere across the UK.
The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary engineering team and provide process engineering expertise throughout the project lifecycle, supporting process modelling, concept development, engineering analysis, design assurance and operational optimisation activities within a highly regulated nuclear environment.
This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to strategically important nuclear infrastructure projects while applying simulation and modelling expertise to support complex engineering decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Apply SIMUL8 (TRAM) to support process modelling, throughput analysis and operational simulation activities.
- Develop, maintain and review process simulation models to assess plant performance and support engineering decision-making.
- Identify process bottlenecks, resource constraints and optimisation opportunities.
- Produce and review: Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Mass and Energy Balances, Process Design Calculations, Engineering Reports and Technical Documentation.
- Support concept, FEED and detailed design activities.
- Participate in and support HAZID, HAZOP and multidisciplinary design reviews.
- Work collaboratively with Mechanical, EC&I, Civil, Safety Case and Operations teams.
- Provide process engineering input to support nuclear safety and regulatory requirements.
- Analyse simulation outputs and present technical recommendations to project stakeholders.
- Support process performance assessments, capacity planning and operational readiness activities.
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers where required.
Essential Requirements
- Degree qualified in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Significant process engineering experience gained within the nuclear sector.
- Demonstrable experience using SIMUL8 (TRAM) for discrete event simulation, throughput modelling and process optimisation.
- Strong understanding of complex process systems and engineering analysis.
- Experience developing and reviewing process engineering deliverables.
- Knowledge of nuclear safety, engineering governance and regulatory compliance.
- Experience participating in HAZOPs, HAZIDs and engineering design reviews.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Ability to obtain and maintain SC Clearance.
Desirable Experience
- Experience working on projects for organisations such as Sellafield, AWE, NNL, Urenco, EDF, Magnox or Nuclear Waste Services.
- Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or working towards.
