Summary: The Senior Network Engineer role focuses on designing, configuring, and supporting secure network virtualization solutions, particularly VMware NSX, within enterprise environments. The position requires strong technical leadership and collaboration with stakeholders to ensure effective solutions. The role is primarily on-site in Yeovil, UK, with some flexibility for hybrid working. Active DV clearance is required due to the highly classified nature of the work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, configure, and support network virtualisation solutions (eg VMware NSX) within secure and enterprise environments.
  • Take ownership of engineering delivery for one or more work packages, including planning, estimation, execution, and reporting.
  • Develop and review high- and low-level network designs and technical documentation.
  • Integrate and test network components, ensuring compliance with performance and security requirements.
  • Provide mentoring, guidance, and technical leadership to Network Engineers and Technicians.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, project teams, and customers to ensure solutions meet requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement and contribute to engineering standards and governance.

Key Skills:

  • Strong experience in designing, configuring, and supporting network virtualisation platforms (eg NSX or similar).
  • Ability to balance hands-on engineering with technical leadership and mentoring responsibilities.
  • Confidence to take ownership of solutions and represent networking in technical discussions.
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP, OSI model, and routing/switching protocols (BGP, OSPF, QoS, VPNs, VLANs).
  • Network virtualisation (NSX-T): design, configuration, and support of NSX-based networking environments.
  • Software-defined networking: implementation of logical switching, routing, and micro-segmentation.
  • Integration of NSX networking within virtualised and platform environments (eg VCF).
  • Hands-on experience with Cisco or equivalent multi-vendor network equipment.
  • Network security technologies (Firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPN, segmentation).
  • Familiarity with virtualisation and cloud networking concepts.
  • Network monitoring, diagnostic, and analytics tools.
  • Understanding of ITIL and service management frameworks.
  • Delivery within secure/enterprise/defence environments.
  • VMware NSX-T deep expertise and certification (or equivalent experience) - desirable.
  • VCF networking integration (vSphere, vSAN, Aria Suite) - desirable.
  • Overlay/underlay network design concepts - desirable.
  • Automation of network configuration (Ansible, Terraform, APIs) - desirable.
  • Integration with security tooling (SIEM, SOC platforms) - desirable.
  • Cloud networking (AWS, Azure) and hybrid connectivity - desirable.
  • Experience working in secure or regulated environments - desirable.

A Senior Network Engineer is required to join the Cyber & Security Solutions Division team. This role is focused on.

What you will do as a Senior Network Engineer

  • Design, configure, and support network virtualisation solutions (eg VMware NSX) within secure and enterprise environments
