Senior Network Engineer - 6 months Contract - £500/day via umbrella company - Hybrid Shropshire - SCC FLEX CONTRACT
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Network Engineer to take ownership of the design, delivery, support, and continuous improvement of critical network and telephony services across our estate. This is a strategic leadership and hands-on technical role, requiring an individual who can independently identify complex infrastructure challenges, design effective solutions, and deliver projects with minimal oversight. The successful candidate will act as the technical authority for network and telephony services, providing guidance to junior engineers while maintaining direct responsibility for configuration, troubleshooting, and implementation activities within a high-consequence clinical environment.
Your responsibilities as a Senior Network Engineer:
- Lead the design, implementation, and support of enterprise LAN, WAN, network access control (NAC), security, and telephony infrastructure across multiple hospital sites.
- Independently identify, investigate, and resolve complex network, connectivity, and telephony issues, providing immediate and long-term architectural solutions.
- Configure, maintain, and optimise Aruba Networking solutions, Aruba ClearPass, and FreeRADIUS environments.
- Manage, configure, and support Cisco and Fortinet (FortiGate) Firewall platforms, ensuring robust network security and service availability.
- Administer and support Mitel VoIP platforms, including both physical handset and softphone deployments, alongside Netcall solutions.
- Lead multiple network and telephony projects from discovery through design, implementation, testing, and successful completion.
- Proactively assess and manage technical and operational risks associated with infrastructure changes within a critical healthcare environment.
- Act as the senior technical authority for networking and telephony services, providing leadership, mentoring, and task management for junior engineers.
- Support infrastructure migrations and transformation programmes while transferring knowledge and upskilling permanent team members.
- Work collaboratively with stakeholders across clinical and non-clinical services to ensure network and communication services meet operational requirements.
As a suitable Senior Network Engineer, you will have:
- Extensive hands-on experience in enterprise network engineering, with recent responsibility for network design, configuration, troubleshooting, and support.
- Proven experience working autonomously in complex environments, leading technical projects and making architecture decisions with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrable hands-on experience with Aruba Networking solutions, Aruba ClearPass, FreeRADIUS, Cisco Firewalls, FortiGate Firewalls, Mitel VoIP systems (physical and softphone environments), and Netcall solutions.
- Strong experience managing LAN, WAN, NAC, network security, and unified communications environments.
- Proven ability to lead technical workstreams, coordinate junior engineers, and deliver successful infrastructure projects.
- Experience operating within highly regulated, mission-critical environments where service availability and risk management are paramount.
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into practical business solutions.
- Willingness and ability to work in a hybrid capacity and travel between sites at short notice as required.
