Summary: The Senior Network Engineer role at the University of Manchester involves providing expert network support and solutions as part of a major transformation of the university's LAN, Data Centre, and DDI infrastructure. The position requires a skilled engineer with extensive knowledge in networking, particularly in LAN/WAN/Wireless and Data Centre design and operation. The successful candidate will work closely with the network architect and partner to ensure the delivery and development of network services, while also contributing to policy development for a more agile network environment. This is a fixed-term position within a vibrant IT Services department that emphasizes customer service and quality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide network support and solutions for the Evolve program.
- Collaborate with the network architect and partner to assure delivery and development of network services.
- Develop network policy and DDI environment for an agile, automated network service.
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) across the technology stack (HPE Aruba, Cisco & Arista).
- Ensure designs and deployments are fit-for-purpose and adhere to strategic principles.
- Identify opportunities to add value through innovative thinking in enterprise class networking.
Key Skills:
- Experience in network (LAN and wireless) design, operation, and troubleshooting with Cisco or Aruba technology.
- Professional level certifications in Cisco or Aruba networking.
- Strong knowledge of network protocols, routing (BGP and OSPF), and switching.
- Experience in data centre network technologies and their application.
- Desirable experience with Arista networking and F5 load balancers.
- Good experience in network security tooling, firewalls, and IPS.
- Analytical skills with strong attention to detail.
