Summary: The Senior Network Engineer role at the University of Manchester involves providing expert network support and solutions as part of a major transformation of the university's LAN, Data Centre, and DDI infrastructure. The position requires a skilled engineer with extensive knowledge in networking, particularly in LAN/WAN/Wireless and Data Centre operations. The successful candidate will collaborate with the network architect and partner to ensure the effective delivery of network services, including the implementation of Aruba SD-LAN and Arista SD-DC technologies. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to one of the UK's largest campus network rollouts while working within a dynamic IT Services team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide network support and solutions for the Evolve program.
  • Collaborate with the network architect and partner to deliver and develop network services.
  • Develop network policy and DDI environment for an agile, automated network service.
  • Provide Subject Matter Expertise (SME) across the technology stack (HPE Aruba, Cisco & Arista).
  • Ensure designs and deployments are fit-for-purpose and adhere to strategic principles.
  • Identify opportunities to add value through innovative thinking in network design and operations.

Key Skills:

  • Experience in network (LAN and wireless) design, operation, and troubleshooting with Cisco or Aruba technology.
  • Professional level certifications in Cisco or Aruba networking.
  • Strong knowledge of network protocols, routing (BGP and OSPF), and switching.
  • Experience in data centre network technologies, preferably with Arista networking and F5 load balancers.
  • Good experience in network security tooling and firewalls.
  • Analytical skills with strong attention to detail and ability to communicate technical issues to non-technical audiences.

Salary (Rate): £56,921
