Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical design expertise for upcoming network upgrade and refresh activity
- Produce high-quality design and delivery documentation, including:
- Solution Design Records (SDRs)
- High-Level Designs (HLDs)
- Low-Level Designs (LLDs)
- Test documentation
- Build, configure, and support network hardware in line with approved designs
- Troubleshoot and resolve network issues across secure environments
- Act as a network manager for the current live network
- Assess current network obsolescence and recommend suitable replacement hardware
- Identify and communicate risks associated with shutting down Legacy infrastructure and standing up new network environments
- Support implementation planning and technical transition activity across secure environments
Key Skills:
- Proven experience as a Senior Network Engineer in secure or mission-critical environments
- Strong background in network design, build, configuration, and support
- Experience producing formal technical documentation such as HLDs, LLDs, SDRs, and test plans
- Strong troubleshooting skills across complex network environments
- Experience managing or supporting live production network infrastructure
- Strong knowledge of Cisco-based network infrastructure
- Experience working with Dell-based networking infrastructure
- Ability to evaluate Legacy estate, hardware lifecycle, and network refresh/obsolescence challenges

We're looking for a Senior Network Engineer to join a secure defence programme supporting critical network infrastructure. This is an excellent opportunity for a MOD DV-cleared network professional who is comfortable operating in highly secure environments and can contribute across both network design and hands-on delivery.
This role will suit someone with strong experience in enterprise network engineering, network refresh/upgrade projects, and the ability to take ownership of both current-state network management and future-state design.
The Role
As the Senior Network Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting and evolving secure network environments. You will be responsible for providing design expertise for future network upgrades, producing key technical documentation, building and configuring network hardware, and supporting the ongoing operation of the live network estate.
You will also provide input into hardware obsolescence planning, helping assess replacement options, implementation risks, and the impact of transitioning from existing infrastructure to new network instances.
This is a hands-on role requiring a strong mix of technical delivery, documentation, troubleshooting, and operational oversight.

Required Experience

Desirable Experience
- Knowledge of Cisco Smart Account Management
- Experience working on network replacement, migration, or upgrade programmes
- Previous experience within defence, government, or other highly secure environments
- Experience supporting change in environments with strict governance and clearance requirements
Clearance Required
- Active MOD DV clearance is essential
- Candidates must also be willing to go through STRAP
